Do you have any samples of your work?

Can you let us know a little about it? What kind of equipment and setting do you use? Is it expensive to get into?

Thanks

I have been fascinated by this for a long time and as soon as I buy my 40D this summer, I want to try it.

I have shot a bunch of infrared, heres a link to my web page http://www.pbase.com/catson/infrared_world
I shoot my infrared using a Sony point and shoot digital camera. The Sony's have a feature which makes them much more sensitive to IR, Nightshot mode removes the IR cut filter from the cameras sensor. Nightshot mode combined with the famous Hoya R72 filter makes infrared shooting a snap. But to tell you the truth not many people use this method anymore. I have attempted to shoot IR with my Canon DSLR's but have never been able to get results anywhere near as good as with the Sony. I have seen many Nikon shooters get good IR results. Also many people have purchased DSLR's that have been modified to shoot IR, the results from these cameras are amazing, I might take this path in the near future. As for cost, IR filters can get pricey. The Hoya R72 sells for anywhere from $70 for a 58mm to $220 (or higher) for a 77mm.
Heres a good link that explains IR http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/infrared/

THAT'S YOU?!?!?!?!

I have admired your work for 2 years since I saw a link somewhere...Amazing shots...

You shoot those with a Point and Shoot??? WOW.

I have an S5IS...do you think I can do it with that camera? I am also getting a Canon 40D in the summer...What do you think?

I am just getting into DSLR and I have no idea about how IR is but I am off to read the link...I am old school and have several Canon EOS film cameras but not a digital one yet...

You are one of my Photography heroes...I have found a few on PBase but I even have your photos BOOKMARKED!!!

So cool...Such amazing photos...:woohoo:

Thank you, its kind of my 5 minutes of fame:lmao: IR was pretty much all I shoot for 2 years, then I got a digital rebel. You can shoot IR with any camera. You will just have to use a different post processing method with your camera. Here's a link someone left on my page http://www.lifepixel.com/digital-infrared/digital-infrared-photography-instructions.html
I have used this process with limited success with my old 20D IR shots. The Canon DSLR's seem to have a much stronger IR cut filter :( I did have a bit of success with the 40D, it seems to focus better with the IR filter on. Live view helps a bit, but the camera has a hard time previewing through the very dark R72. Oh here's a few 40D IR samples....

When spring arrives I'm gonna try out my 40D for IR, so lets get that warm weather soon please:hippie:

i love the trees by the water..spectacular! i just started playing a round a bit with this in alienskin...nothing to post yet but it's a fun look to play with..

Here's a guy doing IR with a Canon S3/S5
. You need the IR Filter, an adapter (like the Lensmate one), a long exposure and post processing.

It's hard to tell from the one example on the page if they come out as nice as We-Luv-Disney's, but they do come out....

There is also a shop that will do a conversion if you have an old camera sitting around. They take out the IR cut filter and you can take IR shots without a filter which allows a faster shutter speed. I forget the exact process, it has been a while since I read about them.

The camera can still take regular pictures with the use of a special filter they sell.
