We have 18 inch ceramc tile in our family room, kitchen, powder room, living room, dining room and laundry room. I like the look, when it's clean. Right now I'm facing doing a heavy grout cleaning and sealing (the original owners evidently never thought sealing was necessary

I like that it's cool, too and cleaning up things is easier, like after you drag the christmas tree out and are left with pine needles and sappy water. Paint, glitter, glue and stuff from my daughter is easier now. Things break VERY easily if they fall, from glasses to
lego sculptures. We do NOT have any echo in the house, even though I only really have one large rug in the family room and small ones in front of the sink and doors. Oh, and it's VERY slippery when wet, I've wiped out more than once coming in from the pool. If I had to do it again, I'd probably do a marble tile with VERY minimal grout lines or hard wood. My tile is a distressed looking ceramic. But I don't think DH is going to let me rip out 1400 square feet of tile just to put something else down!

Oh, and be prepared to mop a lot!
