Does anyone have the VACATION VAULT?

I looked at what they say and offer and would not touch it.

I'm interested in the responses as well. I'm booked on DCL next year, and I was looking at getting this when we are at the beach.

I think it looks too big to take to the beach. Half that size would be plenty.

I looked at the pictures and it looks as if all it would take is a screwdriver to pop it open. They do not give any real detail information. And when I look at their policies they deny any responsibility for anything except defective material and manufacture; and if you want to return it there is a 25% restocking fee. And shipping is at least another $9.

But under the right circumstances, with the right tools, and allowing an adequate amount of time, any security container can be compromised

Well when they put this in it the site you just have to wonder what the right tools are? And what do they consider an adequate time.

Given it is mostly plastic I doubt it would take much time or very complicated tools.

I've been looking at it on Amazon, they give dimensions of roughly 8.5 x 7.5 x 4.25. It isn't small, but it should fit in a beach bag. I live in Detroit, so I know that locks won't dissuade a determined thief, however I'm thinking it would discourage the casual pick-pocket and ne'er-do-well.

There are two reviews on Amazon, but I was hoping that someone here had one and used it. I'm thinking that it might work to secure our cash and ID, so DH and I can both be in the water at the same time.

I really just don't want to wear my cash and ID in a waterproof pouch, but I felt uncomfortable leaving them on our chair (under a towel) in Roatan. Our stuff was fine, but I need to come up with something that allows me to feel more comfortable and relaxed while on vaca.

OTOH, somebody could walk up, pick up the folding chair with attached vault and walk off with the whole kit 'n kaboodle...Hmmm

Just a thought but if you're trying to dissuade a thief from taking your valuables you might not want to put them into a container that screams "valuables inside" ohhh and I'm only plastic so just grab the whole thing and it'll take you 10 minutes to open me once your at a safe distance or alone.

Unless you buy this thing for the thiefs to take while your valuables are safely hidden in plain sight. Then it's a brilliant idea!

I did consider that. I thought I might get the black one and put it in my mesh beach bag, wrap the cable handle through the chair arm while the beach bag handle would be simply hung on the arm. Kind of camouflage the vault, so as not to scream "VALUABLES HERE and some really Good Stuff, too! I mean, just LOOK AT THIS CONTAINER!"

So then I come back to the stupid, elaborate plastic neck baggies that people say they take to the beach.

Maybe I need to look for a waterproof wrist-let.

We always use one of these and never have any problems.

My DH's suit has pockets and a loop inside the pocket. We tie it to the loop and then he puts it in the pocket, this way if it floats out, it's not going anywhere. This way, neither of us have to wear it, it's not in the way, and we're not advertising our money and IDs to everyone.

WOW! Where did you get that - no not the aquapac. The responsible, cooperative husband! I gotta get me one of those! :lmao:

They are around just hard to find. Some even do laundry and make the bed.

If I were inclined to use such an item, I'd hook its cable through BOTH my chair and my husband's chair -- it'd be harder to walk away unobtrusively carrying TWO chairs side-by-side. Honestly, though, these things won't keep out a thief who's determined to get YOUR STUFF. They just prevent thefts of opportunity.

PACSAFE also makes a product for this purpose; but it's a bit more unobtrusive; it is a black cloth bag lined with steel mesh and with a cable drawstring top. They come in various sizes. They are primarily marketed to backpackers who will be sleeping on trains abroad.

Not sure if I like it or not. It screams out "Valuables inside!" I would definitely hide it in another bag covered with a towel. I realized on the beach a few weeks ago how vulnerable we are. My husband and I were both in the water with the kids, my hubby looked up and there were 2 people leaning over our stuff. I had my wallet and iphone in the bag. I couldn't remember if I had even zipped the bag shut or not. My husband yelled to them and they scurried away. They were dressed in jeans and sneakers, walking up the beach. Looked completely out of place. From then on, I brought $20 to the beach and hid the cell phone and zipped up my bag.

I agree that it looks to easy to break or pry open. Just think about how many people carry a pocket knife as habit. The cord looks like I could cut it with the clippers on my leatherman.
