Does anyone have the AT Disney soft side 21" carry on?

https://www.amazon.com/American-Tou...956&sr=8-4&keywords=american+tourister+disney

My question is does it fit in the overhead compartments? I don't want to check bags and I need new carry on luggage. I usually fly American, Alaska and United if that makes a difference.

I am open to other carry on luggage suggestions, but the Disney stuff is super cute :)
You just need to check the airlines size restrictions for carry on

The dimensions for the bag are on the link you posted.

Technically it would be oversized (23" with wheels) for American and United, but it really depends on the staff whether or not they'll let it slide. Both American have a limit of 22"x14"x9" including wheels and handles. Frankly most of the "carry on size" rolling luggage today doesn't meet the tighter requirements of the legacy carriers. I have no doubt that an inch over has no problem fitting in the bins, but the issue will be whether they make you put it in the sizer and then tell you that it needs to be checked in.

Alaska is more generous at 24"x17"x10".

A lot of cynics believe that the reduced carry on dimensions are meant to increase revenue from either oversize or check-in fees.

The restrictions are 24 X 17 X 10, the bag is 21 X 14.8 X 8- not including wheels.....they really should be required to give the full dimensions of the bag. Some reviews imply that they were required to check the bag due to size. I was just wondering if anyone on here had experience with this particular bag because I don't like surprises.

I could have sworn that I saw it said it was 23" with wheels. I looked at the American Tourister website, and they say with wheels it's 24" x 14.5" x 8".

In any case, United and American have smaller size restrictions at 22"x14"x9" including wheels and handles. I'm pretty sure that a lot of flight attendants just don't care, but there's always the chance that someone just feels like bringing down the hammer.

Thank you for your help, we fly United usually for WDW and that's where we would probably be forced to check it. I just don't like checking bags because they have ended up with damage after only one flight in the past and the carrier generally claims that's normal... For DL we generally fly Alaska so i t would be okay for that.

What size should I be looking at for United? 20" or 18"?

A nominal 20" bag would probably meet the requirements with wheels. But for the most part the airlines haven't really been enforcing the smaller size limits unless it doesn't actually fit in their bins.

It’s not surprising airlines would be reluctant to introduce a rule to promote smaller carry-ons, given the way they treat the rules they already have in place.

“In the past, U.S. airlines have not enforced their existing carry-on luggage standards, so American consumers continued to purchase the larger sized carry-ons,” said Stephanie Goldman, a senior director for marketing at the luggage manufacturer Samsonite.

She’s right. Go get a tape measure and check the dimensions of your rollaboard suitcase. You might find, as I did, that it’s 15 inches wide — an inch too wide to go on a plane, even though I’ve actually taken it on board hundreds of times across many different airlines. United even sells a “carry-on” suitcase through its MileagePlus store that is, technically, an inch too deep and 2.25 inches too wide to carry on a United plane.

Airlines have reasons not to be sticklers about carry-on baggage. Tight enforcement means testy, time-consuming exchanges with staff as passengers squeeze and shove to show that, if you try hard enough, their suitcases do fit into a size-wise bin. Additionally, by letting their most frequent fliers board first, airlines ensure their most valuable customers get access to bin space, even on flights where there isn’t enough room for everyone’s bags.

I like bags that have the skateboard wheels - spinners take inches away from the main compartment and I have heard of many spinners that get a broken wheel and then are useless.

I have 2 American Tourister Splash bags, they have just 2 wheels and are 21". Bought them on Amazon and just went to copy the link for it but it looks like they are now on the Splash 2 - seems to be the same bag just more expensive. Those 2 bags have gone to WDW and DLR multiple times, plus PR and 2 cruises. They look like new and both have gone as carry-ons and under the plane (not necessary just for convinience). And each holds enough stuff for a week long vacation.

Ebags also has some very nice bags. their Mother Lode Mini 21" looks awesome and want to get one so bad but have to wait until my Splash bags die - it does not seem like it will be any time soon :(

Totally understand wanting a cute bag - I want cute and unusual so I can spot it anywhere! The Splash bags are (one) bright blue and the other is a raspberry color. My regular size suitcases are a Jansport and a Burton. Both are very funky (in a good way)! Burton does have some really nice carry ons - and the quality is amazing. Dakine also has some nice bags

I just bought this one off of eBay tonight. $80.74 with Free Shipping!

They also have the one you mentioned. However, the background design is a little different.

I measured my current travel bag and the new one is 3" thinner. So I know it will fit in the overhead compartment on Alaska Airlines and Jet Blue.
I haven't checked a bag in many years. Once we land I don't want to wait at baggage claim. It's straight off to DLR!

Thank you for your response. I did buy the minnie one with the bow from amazon, which the link I posted originally was from. I didn't know links could change after posting....I paid $87.72 with prime shipping and it arrived Thursday. You still got a better deal though :) I may look into the mickey face one, the first one was for my daughter. -The minnie one I bought is the one you pictured with the dots background.

I have the Minnie bow bag (soft side) and it fits in the Alaska overhead bin. :)

Alaska has a pretty large official overhead size limit. I don't think the overhead bins on United or American are any smaller, but they set their official size limit rather small.

I agree. I've been traveling for business, and have a soft side the same size, and especially when I have smaller planes because of 1-stop travel I have to check in my luggage. I mostly travel on American, but also on United and Delta, and have run into this issue a few times. The first time I was unprepared, so had to carry my laptop in my arms. I've since got a little bag that I can slip my laptop into when this happens to me.

Were you forced to pay a check-in fee or did they do it as a courtesy gate check? I ran into an issue with our carry-on flying United SFO-SNA on Thanksgiving Day 2012. I don't recall if the reduced size was in place then, but we ended up with two pieces, a child seat, and stroller gate checked. We were near last to board, and they had no more overhead bin space. We also got to SFO rather late and hit a LONG line at the international terminal (the plane came from Mexico). We had a two year old and were allowed to use the priority line.

Since then I've only flown on Southwest or Alaska, along with one time on Spirit where it made more sense to check in a larger piece than pay for carry-on.

There's frankly very little that is available that meets the 22" with wheels limit. I have one, but the overwhelming stuff marketed as carry-on is maybe 23". Until there's near universal enforcement, I don't think this will change.
