I feel like a local business woman is trying to take advantage of me and I'm looking for advice.

I spoke with a local business to remove 4 photos from my existing squarespace website and to replace them with 4 of my own photos. She quoted me a price that I agreed to. Then she sent me an invoice for double that amount with the explanation that she needs to conduct a "website study to see the process involved in changing the gallery, how long it will take to upload the pictures and to see how my prior website designer set up my website".

I politely responded that I was not moving forward with her services as that is not what we agreed to.

I know how to make simple text changes to my website and its pretty straight forward. I just cant figure out the photos. My old website designer contacted me and is going to do it. But I want confirmation that removing a photo and replacing with a new one is pretty simple (except for me lol)

That sounds like someone who does not know what they are doing and is trying to con you.

I did a Google search, this is the Squarespace instructions for changing images

Its not that difficult , Squarespace is one of the more basic websites. Its is specifically made for people who dont know anything about coding, web design or content creation.

THIS!!! ⬆

That person was trying to scam you for more money, figuring since you don't know how to change images, they can pretend it's waaay more complicated and they can make some money out of it.

I don't use Squarespace, but know several other people who do. It's designed to not be hard to set up and get up and running by themselves.

If you don't have a shopping cart attached to your business page, you can easily set up a FREE site at Wordpress.COM instead. Wordpress is one of the oldest build your own blog/webpage sites in existence. It is set up to be user-friendly to build a site. It has a format similar to this text box here at the DIS with the tools across the top and familiar icons for adding links and images.

Wordpress.COM has lots of FREE, easy templates and different looks to use, insert stuff, add onto, etc. So you can create something for your personality. AND you can easily change the page later, move around stuff, swap out photos, etc.

If you already have a domain name, you'd simply change the URL link from your current Squarespace page to the Wordpress page. It's called "domain forwarding."

Wordpress.COM is the place to build a FREE website or blog. They also have an advanced .ORG paid site for people who want to build more complex stuff, like add on a shopping cart to sell stuff, which you don't need. Don't get those two sites confused. Some people may even tell you, "I have Wordpress, and you have to pay." No, they have a .ORG account that they pay for.

thank you. I really did think it was simple. I just don't have the bandwidth to do it. Its s shame. My business is based on supporting local business women and we are in a few of the same groups.

I am self employed digital marketing, I work with small business who dont have the money to hire a full time marketing manager or who lack the skills needed to look after their social media and websites. The industry is full of people out to make a quick buck from stressed and overworked mom and pop one man band little businesses. Ive seen some very dodgy things, all because the website owner does not know any better and thinks paying a high price means they will get a good service.

Good example where you might want to get more then one quote if you find the price from one person is excessive for what you were expecting to pay.

Is it really less bandwidth to stress about this and find a person to do it and not feel like you are being scammed than it is to just simply learn how to do it yourself? The whole point of square space is that it's a DIY platform.

There are numerous You Tube videos that show you how to do this. None of the videos is over 2 minutes long. You got this! It is VERY easy to do! Please don't pay someone else to do something so basic.

I agree. I've learned A Lot being a business owner. I'm just surprised because she is local and she was referred by friends. lesson learned. If it doesn't violate any codes here and if your willing to share, I'd love a DM with information on your business. I own a women's wellness centered near Boston and will be rebranding and creating a whole new website and logo. I'm always open to following new people on social media and possibly working together if it makes sense.

I got a fix for that. :thumbsup2 You need to put your photos on another FREE site, as a host site. This is so the photos already show up on another site somewhere on the web. (Photobucket used to do that until they wanted money.) Then you hot link them (embed) them from that original site into your Squarespace webpage and they just show up. Yet all the bandwidth is there on the original site. You don't use up extra bandwidth on your Squarespace site. Squarespace would just link to them and have them show up.

Many of us hot link all the time here on the DIS. That's what that picture icon (to the left of the smiley face) is for up in the tool bar. One clicks on that, then inserts the link of the actual photo.

It's like this photo of actress Melora Harden playing a strong business woman:

90

It's actually from this webpage on the web:
https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/love-classified/photos/photos-from-love-classified/**#slide-4

Right mouse click on the photo and click on "Copy image link" or something like that, which is:
http:// hallmark-channel-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com/bf/18/3e03bad14f82ad4fc1254709e26e/day11-loveclassified-0139-rt-rv1.jpg (without the space before after "http://" )

Here, you would click on the picture icon in the tool bar, then click the icon of a chain link. Paste the image link in and hit insert. It will show up on the page, seamlessly like above. You just need to find the directions to link a photo into your Squarespace page.

For a website to HOST your photos, you can still go to wordpress.com or blogger.com. Open a free account. Set your webpage or blog page to PRIVATE. Then upload the photos you want onto a page. When done, click on "Publish." (Don't worry, the page is private. ;) ) Go to the Published page and do the directions above to get the image link, then insert/embed each one into your Squarespace page. Done.

It's always easy to add more photos to the host webpage, delete them, etc. then Re-Publish the page for the new photos to show up, and link them all.

It sounds more complicated than it is, once you get the hang of it. :thumbsup2
