Needing to cancel a reservation BUT the card you paid with was stolen and is no longer in use?

If you've had this happen what are your experiences?

I know I'll have to call but I'm kind of wondering what has happened with others or to see if there are any specific numbers I should/could call to deal with this.

When I have had a credit card replaced due to theft the cc'd company automatically makes any refunds from the old card to the new card.
It's the same account but with a different card number.

This.

The way my bank explained it is the number remains active for deposits/refunds - it's just nothing will go OUT from it. The way the customer service rep said it to me was "We figure someone who stole your card number wasn't doing it to pay you money."

Thank you both for reassuring me! I appreciate the time you took to respond.
