I was wondering if anyone might have some pic's of the CM's. I would like to use this as a tool to help teach my 6 yr old who to go to if she get seperated, or lost. This way she can see how they are dressed,,,etc. I thought that along with putting an info card on her, and teaching her basic info like where we are staying, etc this would help out if she go lost.

so does anyone have anything I could show her?

thank you :confused3

I know that Dan Murphy has posted pictures of CMs before. You might try PMing him.

They are going to be dressed differently depending on where they are working. About the only thing that would be the same is the name badge.

...and since you can buy the name badges at the shops, I don't think it would be a good idea to have your child just go up to people wearing name badges. A better idea may be to tell her to go up and talk to the person who is letting people onto the nearest ride, or into the nearest attraction.

when we were there I pointed one out to our 5 year old and he corrected me - told me NOT to have her find someone in his uniform, but rather check for the badges. He said to her, "if you can't find mommy or daddy, find someone who makes the ride go, they will get your mom or dad."

HTH, Nora

When you get there and go through bag check, point out the security CM's. Make sure she knows that they're her friend, and should she get lost, the CM that she talks to will "tranfer" her to Security.

Name badges aren't a bad idea as long as she knows what the real ones look like. I don't beleive that CM's / security would let a guest walk around wearing a real WDW nametag.

The guest of honor badges look very much like a CM name tag. Everyone can buy one.

your best bet is to tell your child to go to the nearest shop and find someone behind the counter. merch cm's have more flexibility in their areas and can easily walk the child around to find the parents. Attraction CMs are more tied down to their positions and can't leave theri posts as easily. plus there's usually a stocker in the shops who can walk the kid down to lost and found because they're in a nonspecfic costume.

One other thought-- if a child is lost the pros will always tell you to tell your child to ask a Mom with kids for help. Virtually any mom with kids in tow you ever meet will be a safer bet than a random person with a name tag on. Even disney cast members. Think about it, if a child came up to you and your 6yo at the park and said I need help, I can't find my mommy, wouldn't you spend as much time as it takes making sure they are okay and with the proper authorities? Hope that helps :)

I agree. I've told DS7 on several occasions (not just WDW, but any public place) to look for mommies.

But as far as cast members go, telling them to go to restaurants or stores is a very good idea. A ride operator may have to radio for someone else to come and help, while someone at a gift shop could easily take 5 minutes off and take the kid to security while someone else watches the register.

It's a very well oiled machine when it comes to lost kids. I agree that the guest of honor badges look too similar to cast member badges to instruct children to look for them. But once your child is in the care of a CM it's a very efficient system.

CM's have White name badges -as far as I know they are the only ones with a White color. If you need I'll be going to Epcot tomorrow and make sure I take some pictures.

Our GOH Badges are white also. They have blue and red print (some blue, some red). I don't remember all of the colors that were available at the time... (btw - we didn't get them to impersonate CMs, we got them because we took a family trip to celebrate ds' b-day :) )

Restaurants and stores are a good idea. The reason I thought about the ride operator, is that it's easy for a child to seek out that person. A cashier at the stores or greeter at a restaurant would work just as well though.

If you go to the link in my signature, it will take you to a thread that has other links. The first and second ones there have a lot of CM's. The ideas above are great.

thank you for the link,,, we are having so much fun discussing all the different people and places that she can find CM's ... its become more of a game,, so that she is not afraid.

I'm not to sure if I like the "mommie" idea as much.. There are plenty of "strange" people out there (we live in NY) I would rather put my trust in a person that has been screened by Disney rather than a stranger. (But yes you are correct I would most definately help out a lost child,,but I'm not everyone)

Thank you all for all of your support and great ideas. :smooth:

The CMs are great with lost children. We "lost" my son at Blizzard Beach once and learned that instead of looking for him (which we did frantically for a long time), we should have notified a CM and they would have helped. He was at the lost child place for a very long time and all could have been averted if we had just asked. A few years later, I witnessed a lost child and watched the care that was given him, first by a clerk at a stand in Tomorrowland, then by the other CMs who came out of the woodwork to help. It was amazing to watch the compassion and concern the CM displayed while helping the fellow find his family.

Make no mistake, I worked for Disney for many years. They do no "screening" whatsoever of their employees other than a typical interview. They ask if you have committed a felony in your application, but you can easily lie. With tens of thousands of cast members on property it would cost them millions to "screen " everyone for a criminal record. I'm not trying to be a jerk, and I am sure the CM's are probably the best bet for a lost child. But lets be realistic about this. There is just as much chance of a "bad Guy" working there as there any other place in the world.

MKCP5 - They do fingerprinting for background checks now. I don't know when they started the practice, I'm told that it's been a while, but I was fingerprinted a year ago.

WOW! :scared1: that's really disheartening,,,,,,,,,,I know there are creeps everywhere,,,,(I work for the gov't, and get to see them all the time) but, I would have almost bet that Disney took more precautions then most! (I still Love Disney, and all it represents, but I know I am much the wiser now.

Thank you :goodvibes
