We are thinking about adopting a dog. I would really love to adopt a greyhound. I have a couple of questions though.

1) Are there any boards around like this one for greyhound owners/potential adopters?

2) Why did you choose a greyhound over another breed?

3) Is it true that the white and grey greyhound shed more than the other colors?

4) How playful are they? I have read that they are pretty docile dogs so I am wondering what their activity level is also.

5) I have 3 cats......is a greyhound out of the question for me?

Thanks for your help!

My cousin has two greyhounds and I can answer a couple of your questions. She has two cats and another small dog in her house so yes, it is possible to have your three cats with one. Hers are very playful and a lot of fun to be around. I will warn you that their tails are very powerful and my cousin has had to move things out of "harms way" She was also required to have a fenced in back yard before she could adopt. She fell in love with them after seeing a local rescue group at a pet store. They are sweet boys and I love them dearly. She has two black and white ones, so I can't compare the shedding, but both do shed a fair amount (as do a lot of short haired dogs). Good luck :)

I was the very proud mom to a beautiful brindle greyhound for 6 years. He developed osteosarcoma and died last November. So I am quite biased. I have had several different breeds of dogs (all rescue) but there's just something special about those retired racers.

Greyhound-L is a newsgroup type message board that I got a lot of info from before I adopted...

How did I come to adopt a greyhound? I was in a pet store in Florida one day and a local group was showing dogs for adoption. This little girl walked over to me and put her head in my lap. That was it for me!

Greyhounds can be pretty playful but for the most part are content to sprawl out on the sofa. All sofas become the property of the greyhound. LOL!

As far as cats, I had two when I adopted. Most, if not all, adoption places will test the dogs to see how they react to small animals. Some are good with them, some are not...kind of like any other breed of dog, I guess.

I know I'm not the only grey person on the DIS. I'm sure someone else will let you know their experience. If you have any questions, let me know.
