I've never heard anything good about Shutters at Caribbean Beach... Has anyone ever enjoyed their meal there?

It seems a shame cuz Caribbean Beach is such a nice resort, and theres big potential for a really good restaurant! I'm thinking bahama breeze type!

Sorry, I can't give you a good review, but I can give you a bad one. I've only eaten there once and it was really bad. I thought my steak tasted off, but thought it was just the Caribbean seasonings. I usually have a stomach of iron, but I have never been so sick in my life. I spent the night in the bathroom hugging the porcelain thrown and felt off most of the next day. My medium rare steak was very well done, tough, and stringy. The black beans had what tasted like a whole box of salt in them and were barely warm, mashed, and looked dried out like the plate had been left under a heat lamp. When I was tired and didn't feel like leaving the resort to go to my ADR, I walked in about 7:30pm as a walk up and should have known by how quickly they seated me that something was wrong. The place was almost empty. Service was still bad though with several waiters standing around talking but ignoring the tables. I asked twice for a refill on my iced tea and never did get it. This was about 2-3 years ago, so maybe it's improved since then.

Not too many good ones..I gave it a couple of tries, terrible each time.I would rather eat CS

We ate there Feb 27, and I really enjoyed it. I had the pasta dish with chicken, and DH had ahi tuna. We split the wings appetizer, which may be my favorite app at WDW. I say it's worth it if you are staying at CBR, which we were - but not sure I'd make a special trip for it.

We ate there when we stayed at CBR. It was okay. not memorable in anyway and I wouldn't go back in a hurry even if I was staying there. BUT if you really want to have a sit down meal and don't want to leave the resort, it will do.

Our Ratings of Shutters:
. . . food price value: D+
. . . food quality: C-
. . . food quantity per serving: C
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C-
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B-
. . . staff helpfulness: B
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: The eatery is simply not anything special, It has an array
of "Caribbean Inspired" food, but only average or below average on the
quality scale. If you are really hungry and do not want to go off the
resort site, it is OK. However, doing it once per vacation is probably
overload. We thought it highly overpriced for the quality and quantity
of food - just could not understand tuna for $23 or a small streak for
$28. For the money and quality, I'd recommend the food court - turkey,
pork at reasonable Disney prices.

It was decent for us in December.

Hubby and I shared a salad and a pasta dish (both vegetarian). DS ordered the kid's cheese pizza. DS loved the pizza. :) We thought our food was pretty good.

But the service was...a bit lazy and definitely odd.

DH ordered a smoothie, and they brought out lemonade.

DS, as I mentioned, ordered the cheese pizza, and they brought him a *chicken* pizza. Which isn't even on their menu. The server disappeared for quite a bit after bringing out that pizza (it came out quick, which was nice, but gave the STRONG impression that another child had special-ordered it and was now waiting for their pizza) and we had to snag another server (or maybe the manager?) to get it fixed. Same with the smoothie/lemonade.

Just odd.

We have two very good meals there. One was a few years ago when we stayed there (12/06), another was one night when we pool hopped there (we used to be DVC so it was "legal") and decided to eat there as well.

To me this is a good place to have a full serve meal if you just need a night to be at your resort but want a sit down meal. It has zero atmosphere but our service has been excellent both times.

I think that in spite of our positive experiences, this is one of those places that is ripe for a makeover. Caribbean cuisine is so varied, they could really pull out the stops and make this something special.

But then that holds true for a lot of WDW restaurants.

Tried it once. Once was enough not to go back. The food court at CBR is better than Shutters.

I have eaten there twice, and had good meals both times. I'm on a special diet, and have had non-menu dishes custom made. Maybe that helps.

What's odd is that even when the place is maybe two-thirds empty, it still takes forever to be seated. The reception staff has to wait until the magic electronic box spits out a paper with your party's name on it. (We're a slave to our computers - we can't just do the logical thing and show you to one of the many empty tables where you can be served by one of our several otherwise-unoccupied staff.)

but there's no denying that Shutters seems to produce more horror stories than any other place on property. Despite my good experiences, I can't deny I would hesitate before going back.

What a great question.

I was toying with the idea of trying out the CRB resort for our next vacation with just DH and wondered about Shutters.

We have now stayed twice at POFQ and loved going by a very relaxing boat ride to DTD and those restaurants. With our recent vacation, one of our families in our Grand Gathering went twice to Boatwrights at POR and loved both experiences. This has us going back to POFQ for our next vacation too, as we want to finally experience Boatwrights.

I haven't seen a lot of great reviews on Shutters and with so many different options out there, I don't see us trying to go there anytime soon unless they change.

I agree, they are missing a wonderful opportunity to make it something great.

Absolutely hands down the wWORST supper ever in Disney World! We had no other Option one night, Dh was so sick for days we couldn't pack up our 3 babies and walk anywhere. I would rather eat at the counter service (which was amazing) than eat at shutters ever again. now mind you a couple of their desserts were not bad, so if you want a drink and a dessert, it could be an option, but the main meal was awful and the service was so slow. We also asked for drinks multiple times and didn't get them. Then we had items delivered to our table that were not ours, then the bill was all messed up and I had to speak with a manager...all in all There is NO PIXIE DUST floating around that restaurant.
Now if they changed it to a Bahama Breeze type place I might dine there a couple times each visit! lol

Okay, I haven't been here for YEARS, but when we went, it wasn't horrible. It was slow, and the service was weird... but the food was decent and we had a nice time. I'd try it again if we were staying there, but wouldn't make a special trip like others have said.:goodvibes
