actually the OLD compact flash cards are being phased out, the new digital SLR's I do believe use compact flash II which run a little differently

I agree with the earlier post about the Olympus with the slide cover. They are difficult to use and can be frustrating. The higher end Olympus' do not have this problem and are very nice cameras. My biggest gripe with them is that they do not offer image stabilization on their ultra zooms. I really think that they have the best image quality, but I do not want to carry around a tripod to use my zoom.

I am on my second Canon (A70 and now S1 IS) and I am very happy with it. I looked at the Fuji 5100, but it did not even come close to the S1 IS even though it is a little cheaper. In my opinion, the 5100 is not even usable at wide angle due to the vignetting.

If I was going to get something with a small zoom (3x - 6x) and was just considering quality, then I would look to Canon, Panasonic, Olympus, or Sony. HP, Kodak, and Fuji seem to only be concerned with marketing instead of features/quality. I am not saying that you can not take incredible pictures with those brands, but sometimes you do not realize what you are missing. Go and try out the ones that you are considering in a camera store. Avoid the big stores like Best Buy because they never give you any useful help. You have to chase one of them down just to get a memory card to test with. I always tell everyone that asks my advise. Look at them in person and buy the one you liked the most.

I have a Fuji Finepix 2800. It is 2MP and has a 6X optical zoom. It is perfect for my Disney vacations. I adore the zoom. I've had it since 2002 with no plans on replacing it in the near future. I don't need giant sized photos so the 2MB is fine for me. The majority of the pics on my website were taken in VGA mode. The lowest quality setting on the camera. The size is good for web photos.
Night photos can be tricky with any digital camera. You really need a tripod as you must keep extremely steady when shooting at night. If you can balance your camera on something it also helps.

Just about 2 months ago I bought a Fuji FinePixE550 -- 6.3 megapixel, 4x optical zoom. I have a manual 35 mm SLR that I use for my "art" photography, but I wanted a digital for family snapshots. For this purpose, there's no way I needed 6.3 megapixels, but I just figured the more the merrier. I basically just wanted something I could carry in my pocket. The thing that sold me on it compared to the 2 others I was considering was the 4x optical zoom, which I think is the biggest there is in this size of digital camera (most have 3x), and digital zoom is pretty worthless IMHO because the quality of the image suffers (imagine looking at your TV set through binoculars, that's similar to the idea of digital zoom). The other thing that sold me on my camera is that it can take 2 regular AA batteries, but it comes with AA-size rechargables. I'm pretty impressed with the camera.

I have a Fuji FinePix S3000 and I LOVE my camera. I researched for about 10 months before I finally bought this camera and I pick the perfect camera for me. It is a 3.2 mp with a 6x optical zoom and takes beautiful pictures. I have some great nightime pictures with this camera. It is easy to use/learn but it has some manual controls so you can have more control. I have been able to use regular AA batteries in a pinch and they last a long time. Also the price is starting to come down on the xd cards.

In my last Digital Photo magazine the 4mp version of my camera was rated one of the best beginner cameras, meaning a step below a digital SLR.

I have the Fuji S7000 and I love it. It takes great pictures. It is a bigger camera, no putting it in a pocket but for picture quality I couldn't be happier.

I have the fuji fine pix s7000 too and love it! It does really well at night and indoors. Couldn't be happier.

I use the Fuji S7000 too - I'm very happy with the pictures that it takes! My brother was so impressed with them that he went out and bought the S7000 to replace his 1-year old digital camera.

I highly recommend checking out reviews at Digital Photography Review before buying a new camera. I bought my Canon A70 after reading their glowing recommendation over the comparable Nikon, and I've been happy with it ever since. (And a friend of mine later bought that Nikon, and it was not nearly as nice what little I played with it)

If I were in the market for a new camera, I'd be looking at the Canon A510 or A520, which are the newest versions of my trusty old A70.

I have a FinePix S5000, and before that another Fuji... and the DAYTIME pictures are outstanding.
I still have mixed feelings about the indoor pics though.

Here are some pics from our cruises.... the 2004 were taken with the S5000, the 2003 with the older Fuji Model ( I think the 1400).

I love mine but it does have an annoying delay which makes taking pics of toddlers difficult. It is also a bit cumbersome for carrying around all day. My sister has a cannon elph digital which takes wonderful pics and is tiny...smaller than a pack of cigs.....My next camera will be one of those.

Sorry I am no help. I am from Rochester NY home of EASTMAN KODAK ( one of the largest emplorers up here).....To us up here FUJI is the "Other" four letter "F" word. Only kidding, I do own a Kodak Digital Camera and love it but if you have a FUJI and love it thats great!! I just am a point and shoot kind of gal so I dont have a lot of bells and whistles on mine...just the important KODAK label If you do buy a FUJI camera help us Rochester people out and at least use KODAK film and processing There was a big problem up here when Walmart first arrived and used FUJI paper to develop photos....they now use KODAK but Sams(I think also owned by WALMART uses both you have a choice.
