Does anyone go every other year?....

We have 225pts at BCV. We used to have family one hour north of WDW and we went twice a year. Now, our family moved back home and we go to WDW every 18 months. As I get older, my $ and vacation situation is getting better and we hope to add-on a little at VWL and AKV.

DW and I bought 165 points 3 years ago with the intension of going every year for at least 7 days. And that had worked out well. Matter of fact, we even worked in a short trip to HH DVC. The add on discussion has came up...but we are holding off until our family in finished growing....that way we can plan our point purchase around how many rooms we will need :scared1:

Just to know that you are not the only one can be so freeing and therapeutic! :)

I, as soooo many of you, confess that I made my initial 160 point purchase so that I could go to the Boardwalk every other year.

HAH!

On my first visit I added on.

Then, I thought, "I need a LOT of points so that I can go to Disney once a year and cruise every other year."

That lasted a year. Because then I said that I needed enough points to go to Disney once a year AND to cruise once a year. I did that this year already. I went to BWV December 30 to January 6 and then on the Eastern Caribbean Cruise January 7 to 13. I get to go to the BWV in October because I purchased another resale and it had 140 banked points (an extra vacation unlooked for!)

And now I'm saying, "I really want a place at the Magic Kingdom as well" and I am beginning to save my pennies, nickels, dimes, and tax refunds for my eventual purchase of the Contemporary!

But as I say, as of tonight I feel so much better about myself because I know I'm not the only one! :)

Why do people feel the need to make "that will never work" and "LOL" posts over this idea when there are several people IN THIS VERY THREAD who have made this work successfully for several years? You may choose more often, or you may lack the self control to deny yourself for a year, but this DOES WORK.

Other things that work for SOME PEOPLE, but get abused here as completely unworkable - some people do successfully share a small contract (I couldn't, but it works for some people). Some people have a contract for less than 100 points. Some people have no desire to add on, no matter where DVC builds. Some people buy any old resort because they don't care where they stay. Hey, I've even heard of people PREFERRING SSR and thinking its a lovely resort.

Addonitis is something that happens - and especially hanging here, its easy to catch. But this isn't some inevitable degenerative disease where eventually you have a $5,000 dues bill every year and need to go to DVCAnon meetings. Some of us can be "casual" DVCers without falling into addictive patterns.

That's our plan, we have the same number of points as you and with the UK flight prices, we can only afford to go every 18 months to 2 years, but will stay for between 14 and 21 nights depending on time of year.

We are also in the UK, we have 170 points which means we could visit every year if we stayed in a studio and went elsewhere for a couple of weekend nights - but the plan is to go every other year and stay in a 1 bedroom or even a 2 bedroom.

Between our last non-dvc trip (Feb 06) to our first DVC trip (Oct 07) it will be about 18 months, and I predict our next trip will be shortly after June 09 (we have a June use year).

Regardless of our 'free' accomodation with DVC, a trip to WDW is still going to be an expensive undertaking for us due to flight prices, and we always travel for at least 2 weeks, so every 18months to 2 years is quite realistic for us.

I had purchaed in hoping for a winter trip one year and a summer trip the next to spread some points out... However, 'Addonitis' caught me in a big way... Now we go a few times a year... Note though that we rarely go to the parks...
