I just started getting some food from this company. Some hits & some misses. The Beef Pot Roast is WONDERFUL & so easy to prepare! The prime rib is not good at all. If anyone uses this company, tell me what you think. What are some good choices? Do they have whole Turkey's at Thanksgiving? oh - and 1 more question - do you tip the drivers? Gotta go - my stomach is growling.........

I don't order from Schwans.

However, I was wondering who the heck orders from them because I see their silly little trucks all over town.

Now I know, thanks.

I used to order from Schwanns. Their chicken sandwiches were faves as well as the pizzas.
However, I find that Costco or BJ's Wholesale Clubs have much lower prices on the same type of items and the quality is better. Marie Callenders (sold both at Costco as well as BJs) have much tastier food than Schwanns on the same type of dishes.
Just my thoughts on this!

I loooooooove their Bagel Dogs!!! And they don't sell Silver Mint Bars anymore...so hopefully they'll some day bring them back. The Gold N Nugit bars are good...better quality than the Snickers icecream bars, but same idea.

We're trying the Boneless Chicken Teriyaki (sp?) Wings tonight. Looks good. :)

My dad likes their Frozen Hot Chocolate.

I dont know wether you are suppose to tip the driver or not it is our cousin so we dont, maybe I should I dont know but the ice cream is awesome we also have tried the lasagne it is pretty good and we have had the apple pies they are wonderful especially with some of there vanilla ice cream. ok I am makeing myself Hungry I guess I need to go start dinner. Traci

I used to buy quite a bit. THe truck hasn't been coming for several weeks now. The prices are pretty high (can usually find similar stuff at the store for less) but it is more about convenience than anything else.
We like the veggie lasagna, the chicken alfredo pasta dish (don't remember what it is called for sure), the hot wings, garlic potatoes, asparagus is very good. I love the pies. They have all been good. Of course the ice cream is very good but very expensive!
I had a spiral ham one year and it was just ok. not great. I don't usually buy much meat as we have a beef in the freezer.
THey do have money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with something.

I ordered something from them a few weeks ago and I am wondering where the heck they are with it? Their all-white meat chicken nuggets are great. I've tried the pot stickers too, and loved them.

your driver should stop by every other week on same day. I like a lot of their stuff but can't say I like it all. As for tipping driver I guess you could as they do work on comission. If you want them to bring back something or have issue you can go to website and there is an email for commets/suggestions. You can also preorder from site which is great for me. They also will be bringing out new catalog in April with hopefully some new stuff.

I don't tip my driver and none of my friends do either. They get paid quite well according to the staff at Schwans. They do work them awfully hard though. Anyway, I have been using Schwans for about 2 years now and they deliver every two weeks. I agree that some things aren't so good, but most things are great!

We love all of their ice cream. The pizza is ok.(The Mexican Pizza is to die for but that is only a limited item available at certain times) The mesquite chicken is fantastic, especially on the grill. It cooks quickly and has great taste. (Low fat also) The stuffed pretzels(cream cheese) are very good as are the apple flautas. My kids love the chicken fries(Breaded Chicken shaped like fries) The chicken alfredo and the Sausage and Penne are a favorite in my house also. I also buy all of the frozen vegetables, they are all very fresh tasting. The twice baked potatoes are a staple in my house. I also love the pot stickers and the potato skins.

Now my mouth is watering for Mexican Pizza and I don't have any!! WAH!!!!

my DH drives for Schwan's...he does get tips sometimes from some of his long term customers...mostly around christmas. We like there food, but we also get a discount so that helps.

If you driver has not come buy it could be that they quit....then if you have not preordered you will not get service untill a new driver is hired.

:flower:

PS...my DH puts in 14 hour days...sometimes 16.... :earseek:

How long has he delivered for Schwans? We have an extremely high turnover in drivers in our area. They work long days and cover huge delivery areas. I can literally see the stress on the drivers faces the longer they stay with Schwans.

I just love absolutely LOVE the SERVICE I get from this Company.... :goodvibes most of their products are very high quality in their selection of meat, chicken and their dairy products....now I am not pushing their SERVICE But......the kids I babysit for do not want any one elses CORN DOGS........I have had them from walmart, bJS and other places. and the kids know the difference. ALSO the beef roast with peppercorn and something else was outstanding. The kids also love the chicken fries and the hot wings too. THE SERVICE is fantastic. I get them to service my area every month . OTHER WISE I would be pigging out. I did try something new a few weeks ago......The turkey with gravy and veggies and it was delicious. Good for a person by themselves. Comes in two pkgs. The ice cream too is delicious :goodvibes :goodvibes

Convenience is the main reason I order from Schwans. Our driver stops by every 2 weeks and he knows my likes and dislikes. Our favorite right now is the Shrimp and Broccoli Alfredo Meal Kit. Wonderful and it's so quick and easy to make. The frozen mashed potatoes are something I keep in the freezer all the time. We have purchased in the past Alaskan Salmon, Catfish, Shrimp, Battercrisp Cod, Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast filet, Crispy chicken Breast strips, Roasted Chicken Breast halves, chicken bites, Hot Wings, Blackened Chicken Alfredo, Hash Browns (always on hand) Quik taters, the frozen veggies, Taquito's, the ice cream is excellent. The one thing I can think of that we tried but didn't like were the Pierogies.

I used to...they started out great, but then they switched drivers and all of a sudden the service was terrible. I would get calls at 9 P.M. saying he was on the way even though he was supposed to be there between 11 and 12 each day (morning). Then sometimes they would skip me altogether. I finally canceled it. It started to stress me out , lol...will I be home in time for the schwans guy? Will he ring the bell at 10 p.m.?

They aren't supposed to accept tips. I read that somewhere on their site once.

Also, my driver said that if he comes by & I am not home that he will leave his cell phone number on my door....and he will come back - can you believe that? I think that is pretty darn cool! Can't wait to try the mashed potatoes! Anyone ever have the ribs?

I LOVE their Chicken Kiev and the cheese & garlic biscuits. Yum :)

He has been with them for almost a year now...yes the turnover is high...since he has been there he has trained 3 new drivers.

He likes it but the hours can be hard...most of his customers are very nice and that helps a lot. :flower:

If your DH wants to keep his job, he won't publicize that he is accepting tips, that is VERY against company policy. DH worked for a financial division of Schwan's for many years until it was bought out by another company. We are still close to many Schwan's people, including those in charge of route sales and the Schwan family, so be careful with the tips!

I love a lot of the Schwan's products. Many of their meat products are the same you find in Sam's and Costco, though. We don't have either near us, so we can't buy them there. The company is still family owned and operated and started with one man and a delivery truck. It has grown into a multi-billion dollar company over the years.

I love their frozen vegetables, especially the asperagus that someone mentioned. Their frozen chicken breasts, while expensive, are better then store bought, so we buy them. I do miss the company discount, though, everytime the bill comes!

Well then they need to do a better job in the new employee training because he was never told by them or his depot manager that he is not to except tips. So I guess I will tell him. Thanks for the heads up.
