Does anyone find this odd .... school related

I would find out what the "prayer" was rather than taking the word of a small child who may have made an assumption because it was similar to what they used as a prayer in preschool.

I've heard "open shut them" done many times over the years, as well as led it many times myself, and never heard anyone add the "God is good" grace at the end of it. It was a way to get attention, quiet the children, and start snack out with good manners. I guess I'd better not use it anymore?

As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in school.

Thanks to everyone who posted the "open-shut" words. We've been trying to figure out what our little one was saying in that recitation for about a year.

:confused3

I would find it strange to have a teacher leading prayer in a public school, but I've always lived in areas where that would never happen.

Funny, I always thought as long as there were tests there would be swearing, cursing, and general panic in school. I never prayed before a test simply because if I hadn't studied for it I was screwed and prayer wasn't going to save my butt now!

OP - I'd check with the teacher. If it were our school I'd be having issues with it and a major issue with panties in a wad.

It's a nice little prayer for kids to say.

Nevertheless, I'm not surprised we have the left-wingers freaking out again.

I am politically conservative and it would freak me out, too. I am an atheist and would never condone my child saying a prayer to the Christian God as a matter of course in a public school classroom. People have LEGITIMATE reasons not to want prayer in school, you know. It's not just a political issue.

But you won't find my child there, so problem averted. No one will ever have to deal with my freak-outs regarding educational matters! And everyone will be much happier that way, I suspect.
;)

I don't mind the one from Madeline. But all of the other "thanking" ones still imply thanking a heigher being for their snack. Otherwise, who are you thanking? They probably say thank you when the teacher hands them their snack. So, are they thanking Oscar Mayer and Wonder bread for their bologna sandwich? They all imply a higher being, and I think that is wrong in a public school, and I would encourage my child not to take part and also take it up with the powers that be.

I would be madder about this being served than the prayer!:rotfl:

And I would be pretty upset about the prayer!:lmao:

I think the Madeline rhyme is very cute, as well.

It's a shame you would be labeled a "troublemaker" for doing what your last sentence states. You would be well within your rights and also quite reasonable to expect that the practice be stopped if it were religious in nature.

Well I'm a right-leaner, but I think you should send your child to parochial school if you're in favor of prayers being recited that include reference to God.
::yes:: Me too.

Assuming it was a prayer mentioning God, it would bother me as well. It wouldn't matter that my dd might have said the same prayer in her church preschool or Sunday school class, and that we are personally OK with it, the world doesn't revolve around us. :confused3 ;)

My family is perfectly fine with praying in our own home and our own church. We don't need a public school teacher to lead us in prayer in order to feel spiritually whole.
