Does anyone else wonder

about singers and songs they sing? I know for me, certain songs I hear can put me in a sad, sad mood. I wonder if some singers sing some of their own songs in concert and if they feel sad when they're singing some of them. If they bring back sad memories. Like Elton John for instance. He sings a lot of his old songs in concert. He went through a lot of emotional times when he wrote those songs. I wonder if it bothers him to HAVE to sing them/hear them.

I know what you mean.... I try not to listen to songs that bring back sad memories. But I love songs that always remind me of good times or are just cheerful songs in general. For example, hearing "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffet always makes remember the summers of my teen years

As for Elton John, I don't believe he wrote the lyrics to his songs, I think Bernie Taupin does, and Elton writes the music. But either way, I have wondered the same thing, if singers sometimes just don't feel like singing their older songs, for whatever reason.

Seaspray, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has thought this. As a matter of fact, I was thinking this when I was listening to Benny and the Jets. I think right after that song was a big hit Elton and Benny got into a huge fight and weren't on speaking terms (I think I read that I might've dreamt it though.). I bet Elton hated having to sing that song during that time.

I watched an interview with Eric Clapton one time and he said that he used to hate to sing "Tears in Heaven" on stage, but he felt he had to do it for the people and for his own healing. He said, all these years later, it's still very difficult for him to sing. I saw him in concert once when he couldn't get a few of the words out during the song. I don't think there was a dry eye in the auditorium.

I saw Jackson Browne the year after his wife commited suicide. People kept yelling for him to play, "Ready or Not". Right in the middle of the show he kind of lost it and said, "Look, I am NOT going to play it, so quit yelling for it." I guess just the thought of the song was upsetting to him. Ummmm, it was in Philly and he actually got booed by some people for saying that. I just hope they didn't know what had happened and that they weren't being completely heartless.

I can't listen to Tears in Heaven. It breaks my heart. If I didn't know he wrote it for his son, it would still be emotional, but I'd be able to listen to it without hurting for him.

I hope those people weren't trying to be deliberately cruel to Jackson, either.

Funny, I was wondering about this the other day when I was driving back home.... I know I associate certain events and situations with the songs that I hear, but I wonder how it affects certain artists. Interesting.
