I like him too. But, I find him lacking in one
area. Some of the people who come to him
have long term problems-many of them in fact.
He, on his show, never suggests they need
more counseling or ongoing therapy. He says
things like, "we're going to keep in touch" or
"we'll touch base again with ... to see how
she's doing". A one or two day visit with Dr.
Phil does not cure all ails. The woman who
was verbally abusing her daughter for being
overweight for instance. He told that woman
to "take this tape home and watch it a hundred
times if you have to". Come on, she was verbally
abusive to her eight year old daughter...she
wasn't going to have some breakthrough after
being on Dr. Phil's show! He acts like he's
some type of faith healer. I'd feel much better
if he were not messing around with people's
lives. The recent runaway girl that he tried to
get through to by using his son. That girl could
go home to her abusive boyfriend and get killed.
I also think his walking off with his wife in the
end of the shows if very fake. I think she is
extremely uncomfortable on screen-or just really
bad at it; she seems very fake and forced.
I'm watching, so I must like something of the
show....as I re read, maybe I should reconsider
and stop watching. Luckily, I'm too busy to watch
more than a few times a week.
