Does anyone else think Universal should have FP's like disney?

When posters use the word "The Darkside" or "Motherland", are they refering to Disney World? I've never seem that before, just wondering.

Universal is referred to as "The Darkside" and WDW is the "Motherland". These are Macraven's terms for the two resorts.

No! I also love the perk of express for staying at an on site hotel. I hate the FP system at WDW. It is a pain to keep up with return times and to have to criss-cross the park.

As passholders, we get a great discount on rooms and love the ease of a UO/IOA vacation - free express, easy walk to parks, no ADRs 6 months in advance. We visit Universal 3-4 times a year and usually brave a WDW vaca every 4-5 years. For us, WDW is fun, but takes a lot of prep work and not at all relaxing.

Without the free express perk, we would probably still stay on site, but it would take away from our enjoyment of UO/IOA

I'll add my voice to the "No"s. My reasons are the same as the others have mentioned.

jude, have you looked at the prices of the motherland deluxe rooms in the MK section?

when i saw over $800 a night for my stay, i knew then that it just wasn't gonna happen for me.

i'd rather spend my money on food and booze.
which is my choice.

which leads me back to what i said earlier.
i have options and chose what is best for me.

Mac this is great! I love it!!!

Do you get the express pass just for staying onside or do you also have to buy tickets as part of a package? Can you buy tickets at Costco and stay on site and get the express pass?

Express pass is included with a resort stay.Tickets are NOT .You can buy your tickets anywhere .We bought them from Undercover tourist( cheapest price we found for 4 day park to park) and if you sign up at mousesavers.com you get an additional discount when the monthly newsletter goes out.

i create my own my own language and use it on the dis............

Mac 101:
Universal......................Darkside
DisneyWorld/Land..........The Motherland
Homies.........................peeps that post on the darkside.

England is the motherland to America.
Many of our past generations came here to enjoy the new land and make it home.

therefore, Disney is the Motherland as that's where it all started from.

Hmmm I think I may be slightly outnumbered:rotfl:

yes, but it has been fun.

we all played nice here and just posted what was on our mind.

no one strung you out to dry.
that would never happen here.

the poster is never attacked.
only the subject matter is picked apart.

Well maybe - but it was a great question! :thumbsup2

It was nice to have a little debate in this forum - rather than the usual trip planning questions.

As Mac says everyone plays nice over here. We don't always have to agree but we can be agreable in putting our point of view.

It will be interesting to see what changes Disney makes to Fastpasses and microchip and radio frequency technologies.

A resounding NO from me as well. I wish Disney had something as great as Uni's onsite express. SO worth the extra money to stay onsite for me.

Me thinks me likes it pretty much the way it is. On site is a bit higher, but the inclusion of EP, plus the quick walk/boat ride is a big plus over most Disney options.
We have done both WDW and Universal on 4 of our last 5 trips, and it does take some creative budgeting, but we love Orlando!

I know, everyone on these forums are so friendly:goodvibes
And yes it's always fun to have a good debate;)

I have to agree with the op on this one. I hate the directions theme parks have gone on this one. I try to instill in my kids that those with more money should not be treated any differently but that is certainly not the case any more. We are able to afford this "perk" but will not be paying an extra $1,000 to do so. I am sure that eventually Disney will go after the old mighty dollar in this respect, but I will certainly not be happy about it.

The problem is that they need to keep it as a perk for onsite people. Without this perk, they will lose their onsite business. Of course, they make money off of the purchased express passes as well but thousands of people see it as free when you stay onsite.

When they had it as a perk and free as well, they really had to limit the number of free express passes so that the express lines didn't get too long and make the pass useless. Because the quantity was so limited, many people really felt ripped off and there were tons of complaints. We had tons of complaints about it on this board as well.

If they add another hotel, which is rumoured to be a moderately priced one, even more people will be getting the express perk and fewer express passes will be available for purchase.

We are not one of those families with "more money." But we do however budget for this special perk. Hence we don't get to go very often. Our last trip was 4 years ago. I think if you want to do something then you set a goal for it. I don't think they will take away this perk as you wouldn't have much reason to stay onsite. I know we certainly wouldn't be! Fun debate question though. Always nice to see opinions of others :)

You could say that about basic park tickets you buy just to visit. Kids that have money are able to go on vacation and buy park tickets. Kids that have more money are able to buy more things than ones that don't have enough money, it a fact of life.:thumbsup2
