Does anyone else remember this or am I crazy?

O.K., please settle two arguments for me with my family...

#1 - Years ago, probably 90's end of the 80's, Disney plastic (in the resort/theme park stores) smelled like chocolate or cookies or something...it had a certain smell right? I'm talking about dolls and piggy banks, anything that was made with that thick plastic material.

#2 - There was some kind of ride in Epcot that had figures(like Carousel of Progress) and "time-traveled" or something? You maybe sat in a slow moving two seater vehicle and you "traveled to the future", or Disney's imagining of what the future would be, and towards the end there was a family and their living room or something?

Yes, I know how crazy this post is, but I feel like I remember this and I'm going nuts, I very well may be nuts because my family has NO idea what I'm talking about on either point!

I don't know where else this post goes so if it has to be moved that's fine..

1. I'm not sure. They had a certain smell, but not chocolate that I recall.

2. Yes, you are correct. It was called Horizons.

Yes, I know how crazy this post is...

As crazy posts go around here, this one is FAR from crazy. ;)

Check out a virtual tour of EPCOT Center's "Horizons" HERE.

Yeah, it maybe wasn't chocolate, it (for all I know now) could have been plastic that is no longer considered safe!!

HAHA! I KNEW IT!

Thank you both!!! :)

I LOVED horizons. Youtube it and there are videos of the ride.

Was horizons the ride where you had to select a theme (or something) on the car and you could hit the button till a certain time?

Yes.

All of the guests in your vehicle could press a lighted button voting for a return to "home"
via under the sea, over the desert, or through outer space.

RE: Chocolate smell - I had an Alvin and the Chipmunk set as a kid and the David doll had a definite chocolate smell. I totally know what you are talking about!

Yeah I remember this ride, and my car mate hit the button it to soon and then the rest of the ride didn't work.... It's one of my first memories of WDW.

Horizons was one of my favorite attractions, too. I remember the scent of oranges as you passed the desert farm very clearly.

I wish I could remember riding horizons. Maybe I never did, my mom didn't take me to epcot much. It seems like a cool ride though.

I feel like I know what you're talking about with the chocolate smell. I had a large troll doll and it had a smell like that and was made out of that heavy duty, soft plastic.

I know exactly what you mean by the chocolate type of smell with some toys. Don't think it was limited to Disney toys, though. I think I actually had a piggy bank that smelled that way, and definitely a doll.

Well, that couldn't be the reason for the ride not operating correctly, but it was a fun ride, regardless.

Probably not, but when your a large group and a button gets hot and it doesn't work everyone blames the little kid.....
