Does anyone else LIKE dressing up for cruise?

Our whole family loves dressing up, including dd 9 and ds 5-- who loves to wear ties and used to wear clips on with T-shirts around the house.

Our dd used to nag her older cousins about getting married so she could be the flower girl to get the dress-- but now that we've cruised and she got her "poufy" dress she doesn't care if they ever get married.

After reading this thread I was getting excited to get dressed up. My company has a business casual policy while we're at our site but when we got to out client's offices we have to wear suits and I *detest* wearing them, but.....to wear a formal dress is another story. Plus I think it will get the girls excited to buy a gown to wear to dinner.

That being said it seems as though people are saying that the 4 day cruise does not have a formal night. Is that true? Am I all psyched up for nuttin'?

We missed not getting all dressed up on the 4 night cruise, so we decided to do a 7 nighter. !

having never been on a Disney cruise before.....I just have to ask......they don't have a formal night on the 4-day cruise? I just assumed that all of the itineraries included one formal night?

I think dressing for dinner is a part of the experience. We live in a very casual society where social graces can be sorely lacking in everyday life. It's good to revisit a time where civility was the rule and not the occassional dailliance.

I think that sums it up best.

Sorry can't answer the question about the four day cruise, we've only sailed the Magic. From what I gather, there is a formal night, but not as many people dress up as on the Magic. We recently did a 10 cruise on Celebrity where there were THREE formal nights and two semi-formal. Lots of clothes! I do enjoy it, but I think not quite that much. It's tough to keep my DD in formal dresses from year to year, since she is at a major growth age (12). But she looked beautiful, and the pictures are a treasure. That's my favorite part. Plus, DH looks quite handsome in his tux. Diana

We love dressing for dinner on the cruise, just like we love dressing a bit nicer for a special night out at a nice restaurant at home.

Dressing "special" just puts you in the mood for a "special" kind of evening! It seems to make us stand a little taller and behave a little more more graciously.

Don't get me wrong- I love burgers and beer in my jeans, too! But there's something extra festive and fun about an elegant meal at sea (or at a special restaurant at home) when everyone's looking their best.

:D

It does make the occasion special. It is the same reason I light candles at home or use special dishes for dinner. Just that little something special. And believe me, with four kids, I am use to the jeans/sweats and a burger or pizza most of the time. But sometimes its just nice to make a memory.

My DS9 looks soooo handsome in his coat and tie that I love the excuse to make him dress up on the cruise!pirate:
