Does anyone else just hate going off property?

In the past we would never have thought of leaving property, but one trip we had a chance to go down to tour the Disney cruise ship and discovered that there is more to FL than Disney. This past trip we decided to go to Golden Corral for Father's Day Brunch and it was wonderful! After eating we went down to the outlet mall and shopped the Disney store---picked up a few shirts at some great prices. I have to say, it was a little nice leaving the madness at Disney and relaxing. Maybe because it was three families and we seemed to be going between the different resorts this trip and it all felt so hectic, but we really enjoyed going off for a morning.

Absolutely can't stand leaving the property (and driving...gasp!) once we are "home". But when we do come down, we are usually blessed to be able to stay at least 2-3 weeks. Tried to survive on the Meadows once but had to start "financing" the beer and hotdogs there...so running to Publix became a necessity. We try to make only one trip out. And then we pair it with our only dinner off property, the all you can eat lobster place. It has become part of our Disney tradition.

Just seeing the words "3 weeks" has me fiddling around with my DVC points to see how many days i can get at the fort now. I think i can get about 3 weeks if I pay cash on weekends. 3 weeks sounds awfully good to me right now.

We don't like to leave either.....brought our motorhome without a car last trip and will do the same this time. My husband is a Walmart store manager so going there on vacation is too much like work! He will usually go once wherever we are on vacation to compare the local stores to his. We will stock up before we enter and hope for the best. I usually overpack so we end up bringing alot of snacks, etc. home. Leaving is always a day of mourning when leaving the World....but not as bad as when we left the Disney Magic after seven days.....it was the ultimate Disney vacation experience. It was two years ago and I can't go on the website without getting teary-eyed longing to go back. Hopefully next year!

I really don't mind going to the grocery store as beer is so expensive at the fort! Last time I tented, without a car, it was idyllic but the lack of food and beverage was difficult. You see, my budget is tight. A bottle of wine was cheaper than the beer = dangerous. I bought this rice bowl at Mitsukoshi and it was horrendous but I had to eat it anyway. This time I am mailing some food and buying a pie iron. Anyone feeling really sorry for me yet? Oh, I am old, too!

Oh, as I was getting all verklempt, I forgot my original question. Can you mail beer to the fort?

You know, even if you are tenting.... two of my favorite camping must haves are our griddle and the crockpot. Don't leave home without them and it makes for easy meal prep.

Also...lot's of great recipe ideas on the Camping Recipe thread. If you haven't checked it out, give it a look.

Nope, doesn't bother me at all - AleHouse is offsite

It doesn't bother me either, especially now that my tables in wonderland card isn't worth the plastic it was made out of. (I didn't renew it this year...after 10+ years having it) It used to be that having that card and the fee that comes with it was worth eating out on property, but the Disney Dining Plan has killed that for all intensive purposes. It is just too much of a pain, IMO, to plan your whole trip around eating. I would rather canoe, fish, and hang out with people at the Fort. In fact, we ate with a fellow DIS'er at the AleHouse on our most recent trip. $5 for a pitcher of beer ain't that bad....;)

That's where I got the pie iron idea. I fly in and camp so there's not a lot of room for convenient items.

I ccan't say I love going off property, but will make the trip to WM to stock up when we first arrive. If we are stayiing for a week or two, we will go do some dinners offsite, as I really dont like to plan every moment of every day and it is way too hard to make a last minute dining res anymore. Not a problem off site.

We live about 2 hours away, so will make trips down for weekends every other month, and occassionally will plan a visit to "other" places, but always still stay at FW. It is so nice to come back and remember why WDW is our home away from home.

We never ever like to leave once we get to the Fort! We have a truck camper and CAN unhitch and drive wherever we want to. But WHY?? :confused3

Unless something breaks and you can't find it on property, why would you ever want to leave?

By the time we go on our fall trip, end of October, my husband is so frazzled from rainy season and hurricane season at work, we need a week away from it all. And the Fort is perfect for that.

Shoot, my best friend lives in Orlando now and I won't even go off property to see her.
