I HATE those new pop-up type ads that will NOT let you close them until the "commercial" is finished playing. UGH! PLEASE! If I want to buy a car, take Flonase, or get MetLife, I don't need a commercial about it!! Grr!!

Haven't gotten any of those yet *knock on wood*, but I definitely hate all pop ups. Especially the ones that completely take over your computer screen and won't let you close them until they've completely loaded-20 minutes later.

<font color=navy>Oh, they're driving me crazy!!! I keep running spybot & adaware, but they're not taking care of the pop ups. :(

I just keep right-clicking & hitting back until they go back -- the ones that take over the screen that is.

Between the Plus version of Ad-aware, the brand new Spybot that I posted a link to yesterday and a good popup blocker, I get VERY few popups. Actually none.

I know exactly what you mean Steph. The Dallas Morning News website has one that I have to sit through. They seem like they are more part of the web page than an actual pop up so my pop up stopper doesn't catch them VERY annoying!

Netscape for Mac seems to get rid of just about every pop-up, which is why I use it. However, it doesn't always take care of those fancy ones that come over the screen without opening a new window. I really hate those - especially the ones that have music on them because I usually am at work when I see them.

I always try to avoid doing business with companies that use popup ads, as I feel they are rude and intrusive.

The worst I've dealt with are on a local newspaper website, and on weather.com...ugh! It's aggrivating, especially when I'm in a hurry and just want to check something quickly.

I hate the ones that can't be closed AND I hate the ones that move around, so you are chasing the little close X around the screen with your mouse... Annoying!

I also hate the ones on the Dallas Morning News, that and the fact that you can't read anything without being registered! I don't like to use anything at work that I have to log into so read CNN instead.

These aren't regular pop-ups. Sometimes they have a close screen button but they just sit in the middle of page, usually some kind of flashing add.

I just went to the Dallas Morning News. Did not have to be registered, at least here, and pop blocker caught that opening one.

You can get to the Front page and a few of the articles are sometimes available without registration, not much though.

They have lots of regular pop-ups also, those are usually caught. These don't open another window, I think that might be why they aren't always caught by blockers.

I HATE POPUPS!

We just had cable internet put in at my house and now I am innundated with spyware. My browsers been hijacked, everytime I reboot I get new toolbars and optimizer software and adware. EVERY BLASTED TIME I REBOOT!!!!! I have Ad-Aware, SpyBlaster and Spy Bot search and destroy...but no matter what i do, it remains there when I reboot....

I'm agrivated with it. I've been up all night trying to fix it ever since I got this cable internet...any advice on gfixing this problem. Im the only one other than my mom on this computer and neither of us look at porn, so its not that...ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Sorry for the vent...touchy subject! :P

Download a tool called CWShredder. There's also a tool called HiJackThis. HJT will let you fix a lot of stuff, but it is a very powerful tool, and has the capability to royally screw up your computer if not used carefully. What's typically done is run HJT to get a log of all your startup items, then post a copy of the log to a computer security forum, where the experts will look at it and tell you what to get rid of.

Stepharoonie - the popups are a big reason why I don't use weather.com anymore. Try wunderground.com ... it seems to load faster, and have fewer ads

My bad! It is actually the local NBC station that I was thinking of!

NBC5i

I hate those!!! weather.com is the worst!

I love my Google toolbar/popup blocker at work, and at home DH has everything set up. It's just those embedded commercials that hack me off.
