Does anyone else get giddy while doing their budget?

Everyone I know thinks I must be a complete lunatic, but SERIOUSLY!!1

I made all these really RIDICULOUS goals for myself, and get really excited when I do my bills. I have an Excel spreadsheet that with all of my bills/goals that looks like it came from outerspace.


I seriously sat at my desk today, crunching numbers and doing this in my seat, even though I'm not exactly anywhere close to reaching my goals.

Please tell me there is someone else out there like me

I'm just like you. I LOVE doing our budget and tracking everything in various Excel spreadsheets.

DH & I have budget meeting twice a month and I whip out all these spreadsheets and charts and he teases me all the time. But, it sure does help to set - and REACH - your goals!

I used to dread it, but I really do get excited when I can pay down credit.. the rest of it that I can't control like utilities, not so much..

Oh I hear you....my friend and her husband have "FO" meetings, now Dh and I do too. "Financial Operations" that is. We check to see where we are, discuss where we want to go etc. I get a thrill out of crunching the numbers and predicting where we'll be when. My friends Dh even has spreadsheets for theirs.....now he's a little nuts but hey it works. We have met many of our goals and keep setting new ones......trust me it gets more and more fun as you can tell by my tag.

I do the same thing, make crazy goals I can't quite reach. Some months I am sooo close!

But...how many tabs does your spreadsheet have? Hmm?

One for every month, starting with May 2008! And one for calculating beginning/ending balances, thus finding average monthly principal amounts, and approximate payoff time! (in months)

I figure the more insane I make the goal, the more progress I make!

my goals for 2009:
$10,000 in House Savings = 71% completed
bring the Mortgage down to $150k = 73% completed
bringing debt down by $25k = 93%

You are close. The year is only 1/2 over and you are over 50% on each goal. That is so awesome!

I love to balance our checkbook.

DH thinks I'm a freak but the first week I was home alone with baby by myself (and recovering from a c-section) I was pretty miserable.
When DH got home from work one night I handed him Lucas... packed up my laptop, my notebook, our two checkbooks and locked myself in the guest room to pay bills/make a new budget/clipp coupons and balanc both checkbooks and I emerged a much happier momma.
