Does Anyone Else feel bad leaving their dogs for vacation??

We left our dog for one night at a good friends house and she didn't seem to miss us. We've had their dog too so the dogs know each other. We are leaving her for three weeks this summer and I actually had a nightmare about it. I know our friends will take good care of her but I'm still freaked out.

We were doing an exchange and we were going to have their dog for three weeks too. Now they've cancelled their vacation (her dh went active duty). I need to find a really nice thank you gift! I know she won't take money because her kids are really looking forward to it.

Before my friend and I made this arrangement we were actually considering driving her 400 miles (each way!) to stay at Grandma and Grandpa's house. My parents don't have a dog anymore so they love their "granddogs". When I was a child my dog went blind when we were on vacation - so it's really hard to leave my "baby"!

Why oh why did we decide to be gone for three weeks!

My last golden loved going to 'camp'. He practically drove himself there!!! Never once did he look back as we left him at the kennel/groomers. Now, my present golden just can not be kenneled. He really pines away. He won't eat, loses weight, and gets really depressed! I know...it sounds silly. So, my 26 y/o dd just moves into the house while we're gone. However, last time we went for a week, he still didn't eat. We figure he just wasn't used to being alone all day..from 7-6, poor baby. But do I feel guilty? Nope.
