Does anyone else believe this

I heard piece on NPR this weekend about the upcoming Rapture: http://www.npr.org/2011/05/07/136053462/is-the-end-nigh-well-know-soon-enough. They interviewed a number of believers and one of them said that both she and her husband quit their jobs because they didn't need the money and that it seemed "greedy" to continue to work. She gave up her dream of medical school, she and her family (husband, 1 child and pregnant with a 2nd) moved from NYC to Orlando and have blown through their savings. As a non-believer, I find their actions really sad. Come May 22nd they will have no Rapture, no jobs, no savings, one toddler to feed and another child ready to be born in a couple of weeks :guilty:.

I'm sorry but people this gullible shouldn't be having children. :sad2: I hope we don't see on the news that one or both of them winds up killing themselves or their children because they realize the mistake they've made or because they believe they weren't worthy enough to be taken.

Many Christians that do no believe in the rapture believe completely different things about heaven and hell than the Christians that do believe. And I think they also have different beliefs of who wrote Revelations. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember being told who wrote it (again, may just be the belief of that preacher??) And of course any of it is possible. We just really do not know for sure.

As for everyone saying this is about fear--well, actually, Christians who are believers of the rapture are not afraid at all. It would be welcoming. BUT, most of us don't go around thinking its coming tomorrow or trying to asign a date.

I actually thought the rapture was the first thing that is supposed to happen when the end is near, I guess I am confusing Left Behind with Revelations. Need to go back and read!

Anyone that doesn't know what the rapture is, read Left Behind. Remember it IS fiction, but it can give a general explanation of it. There are really good books. (and a lot easier to understand that Revelations )

His name is John of Patmos (sp?) but nobody know who he is. They believe the book of Revelations was written about 80 AD. He is none of the Johns in the Bible.

Some believe the rapture happens before the tribulation. Some believe the rapture happens after the tribulation.

The number 666 can be attibuted to Nero. Some Biblical scholars believe the book of Revelations was a coded message for those in the time of Nero but we have lost the ability to decifer it.

The 12 days of Christmas was a song taugh to Catholic kids in Anglican England to teach them the tenants of their faith. Most now think it is about gifts.

I do not believe. I was raised Catholic and stick to the "no one will know" part of the bible.

But I will go see POTC 4 on May 20th, just in case ;)

http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm #13 covers infractions.

That is very disturbing and sad. I truly feel for those children; they're innocent in all this but will pay the price for the actions of Harold Camping and the reckless parents.

And what was the point of her getting pregnant? She's not due until June and apparently kids don't get to go.

This is the first I have of this. I'm not changing my plans.

There's only one thing you have to do, and it is very easy. Even people who do this AFTER the rapture will be saved, but will have to wait until they die or until the second coming(7 years after the Rapture to the day according to the bible) to go to heaven.

Yeah, that's why I'm not worried about me. I am worried about some of my friends though :-(

There are a lot of signs that give us warning that the end is near. I have a link to a series of audio recordings that talk about the signs that have happened and those still to come. Although we don't know the day or hour, God did tell us to be watching for these signs, so that we know He is coming soon. I don't believe it will be May21, but I do think it could be fairly soon. Of course, our time and God's are very different. I don't worry, but it IS exciting to me to think it could happen in my lifetime. I think people who give dates give a bad rap to anyone who believes in the rapture and tribulation.

And THIS isn't a religious discussion???????? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I don't mean this post that I quoted, but this whole ridiculous thread. The above post is just THE single crazy example and the bolded part is an example of THE REASON that this nonsense is so offensive to others.

So when these people wake up in the morning of May 22 and realize they are still on earth, what are they going to do? Call up all their fellow believers to see if everyone's still here or whether they just didn't get a pick? And when they realize that the Rapture didn't even happen, then what? There are going to be some very disillusioned (and broke) people on May 22 ........

And what was the point of her getting pregnant? She's not due until June and apparently kids don't get to go.
Really? Kids are not allowed to join their parents? I would assume that a fetus and a toddler would both be innocents. Gotta go Google that one.

but it is believed by some that John of Patmos WAS John the Apostle. He was believed to have been exiled to Patmos.

That was who I was remembering being told it was. But, I know that there are others that do not believe any of the John's in the Bible were the same.

what she said isn't crazy at all if it is what you believe. she didn't say she believed it was happening on 5/21 or that anyone even knows when it will happen. Only that she believes it will. Why should it be offensive? If you do not believe, more power to you. I am not offended by that, so why should you be offended by my belief?

Oh, for goodnes sakes, of course children and unborn children will be go in the rapture. No children will be left behind.

Ok, I just think I'm really misunderstanding the "no religious discussion" rule for the boards. And I generally do get offended when people think I'm going to hell (or whatevere). I just have to get over it I guess.

I thought someone upthread posted that children weren't included? :confused3 Maybe I misunderstood. Either way I find it ridiculous to think there are those who are so self-assured that they KNOW they'll be picked. Kind of the DIS version snowflakes. Even Jesus had his doubts and wasn't sure if he was good enough, what makes everyone else think they know better?

I agree with you and this whole conversation really gives me the creeps.

Apparently I got my rapture threads confused. Someone posted this on the post-Rapture petsitting thread:

"A quick google search reveals that it's apparently controversial whether children and fetuses will be raptured and whether it matters what the children's parent's faith is. Perhaps there is an age of accountability at some point in the young teens? Still, I imagine there are plenty of 12-15 year olds who have rejected Christianity and are old enough to be held accountable.

Surely they will need a parental figure after their parents are raptured, no?"

Don't know how to quote cross-threads, so my apologies for not posting a link to that particular post.

Yeah, me too. I'm about to say something really religious just to get this thread CLOSED. .......But then I will be sad about getting points and have regrets later. ;)

I really don't understand why some members of this board start threads that have absolutely nothing to do with Disney. I understand that some people are lonely, looking for friends, or answers for their religious questions to those people I respectfully say : please start threads in websites where people have the same interests. I am tired of reading through threads that have nothing to do with Disney. In my opinion the rapture is as much fantasy as Peter Pan in Neverland...

Because it is said that since the death of Jesus, when you accept the fact that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, you are accepted into heaven through the grace of God. If one believes and one accepts that Jesus died on the cross for their sins, then they know they will "be picked." Nothing snowflakey at all about that. It is a belief in faith.

It has nothing to do with your actions. It has everything to do with the acceptance of your faith.
