Does anyone else admit to hating sushi?

It's not something I even want to try. Kind of like "sweetbreads" not interested in trying those either. Or head cheese. Or lamb. Or veal. Or cauliflower. I could go on, but I think you get the picture.:thumbsup2

Sushi is not an "In" thing, it is not a fad, it is not cool, it is not trendy.
Its a type of food. A type that has been around for a VERY long time. No one created it so you could try the new Hip thing, its part of a culture that has been eating it long before we were a country. To write off a whole culture is just weak in my opinion. People eat it because it tastes good. Not everyone wants to eat disgusting Mcdonalds and fake processed junk everyday. :confused3

I guess it's just my friends and family then. DS was so happy to discover the sushi bar last night. He'd eat sushi for breakfast.

I think sushi is interesting to look at but not to eat. I tried a bite of a roll once and it was awful. The taste is too fishy for me.

My own, very biased, opinion is that sushi is not real food and if eating tree bark became trendy people would be raving about it. Personally, I would never eat sushi as long as I could still have a good old juicy burger.

LOVE it! It's one of my favorite foods on Earth. I am the opposite of you OP and can't for the life of me figure out what there is about it that anyone could possibly NOT like. :confused3

I do not eat any seafood at all, but I do love sushi. I just have the sweet potato tempura, avacado, cucumber, carrots, etc. It is delicious. I tried my first piece a little nervously and thought "Ehh.." Then a few days later, like a PP said, I was craving it! When it's done well and and it's reall fresh, there's nothing like sushi!

Also, wanted to add that sushi should not taste fishy. If your sushi tasted fishy, then you had BAD sushi.

I love sushi but i think the key to loving sushi is finding what you like. The flavors and intensity range greatly. We have a great buffet sushi restaurant near us. I took my mother who vowed she would NEVER eat "eww, raw fish". After trying a few she didn't like she found an avocado and lobster type that loved. She now loves sushi.

I HATE sushi. And I love seafood. Sushi, to me, is BAIT.

I work with ESL students, many are Asian. They always want me to taste their sushi at functions.

It's perfectly within your rights to hate sushi, it's cool, we're all different....however the quality and grade of the fish for sushi would make someone a lunatic if they were to use it for bait. They're not using minnows, they are using the creme de la creme of fish.

Have you ever seen any of the news reports or food shows when they've gone to one of the sushi markets, where fish, specifically for sushi, is sold to restaurants? It is mind-boggling how much these premium fish cost. Some toro (tuna) goes for $30 to $40 per pound. :faint:

The bait statement was a joke. I know what they make the sushi with,
I just don't happen to like eating raw fish (AKA bait :thumbsup2).

I know! It's amazing!

Me. I hate all seafood, though (exept tuna :)), so it's no wonder.

My older brother was like that: "I hate everything from the sea. Tuna doesn't come from the sea... it comes from a can!"

Wonder what he'd make of toro. :)

Ewww! It shouldn't taste fishy at all. You must have gotten some bad sushi if it tasted fishy.

I love sushi, and seafood in general really. I tried and didn't like sea urchin though...
