Does anyone eat mainly counter service??

I don't know where you are staying but the POP Century resort has a really good food court, everything from Asian to Nachos to pasta. As far as the parks go, the Pinocchio CS restaurant in MK is good. My family really does not like the ABC CS in HS (we ALWAYS eat at 50s Prime Time as it is my sister's FAVORITE restaurant in the world...not just WDW but the whole wide world). In Epcot, the food court in the Land is really good as well (as far as fast food/CS goes), lots of choices.

We are staying at SSR for 4 nights and 3 nights at OKW. I do miss the food courts sometimes at the other resorts. They always have such nice variety. Thanks.

We just got back, and we ate at the Yak and Yeti counter service one day for lunch while we were in Animal Kingdom. I had the honey chicken, and it was awesome! My DH and our friend both got the shrimp lo mein, and they loved it, too. (And you get huge portions...more than enough to share.)

We also ate at Flame Tree one day, and it was very disappointing. The ribs were really dry, and the onion rings were greasy. The corn muffin was good, though.

I used to like Flame Tree for our AK lunch but what drives me nuts are the "attack ducks" LOL They just hang out right next to you....waiting for a crumb and then they walk on your feet and all. Freaks me out.

We eat mostly CS but unfortunately burgers and nuggets is about all DS, DD and DH want to eat.

I did fall in love with Columbia House for some different foods and I think next time I'll look for the eggroll cart in MK since I'm sure a few of those would make a meal for me.

Other than that, I haven't really hunted down the places to eat that are different yet so I'll be watching this thread for ideas.

On our first couple of trips we stuck pretty much to CS. Then we discovered the Dining Plan and now we eat like kings.

My recommendations for lunch (portions not as large) are:
AK - Yak and Yeti CS
MK - Columbia Harbour House
DHS - Toy Story Pizza Planet (although I am starting to wonder about this one)
Epcot - Kringla Bakeri or Yakatori House
Downton Disney - Earl of Sandwich

For dinner, where you might want larger portions:
AK - Flame Tree BBQ (although it is tough to eat dinner at AK as it closes so early)
MK - Cosmic Rays has great variety but it can be difficult to order if you have kids because there are multiple stations. Pecos Bills if you want to get a burger and load it down with fixins.
Epcot - Sunshine Seasons also has great variety and although it has multiple stations, you pay in one place.
DHS - Not much here.
Downtown Disney - Wolfgang Puck Express in the MarketPlace, the best deal in CS at Disney.

At SSR, Artist Pallette is great for CS breakfast lunch and dinner. They have a different dinner specials that rotate such as baked chicken or meatloaf and their flat bread pizzas have a different specials also.

We also enjoy the fish and chips at Cookes in DTD.

I forgot to mention the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs Resort. We had quite a few dinners there when we stayed at Coronado. Great variety and reasonably prices.

Also Coronado Pepper Mart CS I had a cheeseburger there that wasn't like any others on Disney prop. Really good. Also my son had there chicken casadis and said they were the best ever.

Yes, this is supposed to be great and they have a great ribeye steak sandwich, about 21.95 I think, but still only costs a CS! Great value and very delicious!!

If you want to take a side trip to Downtown Disney - Earl of Sandwich was great! We got three sandwiches and split all three. So many choices and all were good!

Since folks are adding in hotel CS how about Beaches and Cream??? OMG their food is yummy and if your feeling mischevious you can always have ice cream for lunch/ dinner!
That is the wonderful thing about being on vacation and being an adult hehehe

I LOVE Beaches & Cream for burgers, sandwiches and of course ice cream. It's not a CS on the DDP, but I agree it definitely has a CS feel to it. It's a fantastic value for those of us paying out of pocket.

It's not such a 'value' for those on the DDP, but still a nice treat.

Last time mom and I went down and only ate TS twice. The rest were counter service. Our personal favourites:

- taking the monorail during the day at MK and going to Captain Cook's in the Poly. The chicken lo mein and polynesian chips were excellent and very filling.

- Village Haus in MK although if the figaro fries are gone I am sad

- Flame Tree BBQ in AK

- the nice thing about CS was eating around the world in EPCOT. We would share a small snack from every country, were completely stuffed and had sampled some great things rather than be in one TS. We had eggrolls in Lotus Blossom Cafe in China, Combination Platter at the Cantina in Mexico (split 3 ways), a waffle for dessert in Norway, gelato in Italy, a hotdog in USA, pretzel in Germany, peach tart and ham and cheese sandwich at the Pattiserie in France, Baklava in Morocco, Fish and Chips in the UK, shaved ice in Japan, and sadly they removed the beavertails in Canada a couple years ago so no Canada treat (I live in the part of Canada where they don't exist)


- nothing in DHS catches the eye for counterservice. We made do at Catalina's eddies's and shared since supper was 4:30 at Hollywood and Vine.
Great way to eat!

I'm going to go against the grain and say that we had a great CS meal at the ABC commissary this past June. Granted - DS had chicken nuggets. But DW had the fish, and I thought the chicken curry was terrific. We both finished up with the strawberry parfait, which was great on a hot summer's day. Seems like many DISers have not had a similar experience, but I wouldn't hesitate to return on our next trip.

We just re-booked for next year with the dining plan and I my wife and I agree we are going to do less TS. Either by using 2 credit meals or just using them at CS locations. TOO MUCH FOOD! And we were constantly planning our trip around meals. We would get to a park around 11 and have to eat right away so we would be hungry again by ADR (usually around 6) Then we may have a snack late, but usually we were stuffed.

So get to the park at 10:30ish and start thinking about lunch... Eat at 11:30 or so... then park time from noon til 5:30ish and dinner til 7 or so. A lot of park time spent eating and being where we needed to be to eat. And a lot of extra walking to get back to where we needed to be (especially at EPCOT) So next year one day at EPCOT will definitely be a day with CS snacking throughout the day... but I do love the TS there!?!?!


We ended up wasting a couple of CS credits and had to burn a bunch of snack credits on 'treats' at POP to bring back home with us.

Great list, since the thread has turned to best CS. I'd have to add Pecos Bill to the list. And I was really impressed w/ the night time selection at POP, had a hard time picking... and I got to all pick three meals that nite! Wish I coulda picked 4 more.
