Does anyone drive across at Gananoque?

We're located near the 401 midway between Niagara and Gananoque. Because of the time of day we may start our drive it may be better for us not to head west and through the Toronto rush hour. What route do you drive down if you cross at Gananoque/Kingston? It appears you can take 81/77/26/95 or 81/64/95 (avoiding Washington DC). If you have crossed at both places (Niagara -taking the 79/77 route & Gananoque), is there an advantage to either one? We will be driving at the end of April so weather hopefully shouldn't be a factor.

We're thinking of starting our "pilgrimage" after school on a Friday and put in a few hours and then settle in somewhere for the night. Saturday we'll pack on the miles and hopefully finish the drive Sunday morning with a leisurely arrival in time for check in and plenty of time to spare for our CM dinner reservation. That's the plan... We were going to start early on Sat am but figured we may be pushing things a bit and would like a slightly less panicked pace on the way down.

Any route advice or words of experience of any kind is greatly appreciated.

Hello!

We have crossed at Gananoque many times, and usually take the 81/64/95 route. We always get a TripTik from CAA, and go the route they suggest. If you have CAA I highly recommend getting one, since it helps give you something to look at/do while you drive.

From Kingston it usually takes exactly 24 hours to drive, so leaving Friday night would probably be a good idea!

Let me know if you have any more route questions!

We have done the 81/77/26/95 and 81/66/95 route and prefer the first option. We find it a nicer drive than the long, long stretch of I95. Also has worked out quicker both times.

Thanks for the input. Wazzo, I am a CAA member and will be getting triptiks done in a while. In a brief talk I had with my agent yesterday she was indicating they tell you to do the route with the longer stretch on 95. Glad to hear the confirmation that leaving Fri. pm may be a better idea. Thank you John for letting me know the other route is shorter and probably a little more interesting. If we head east when we make our final decision all of the input will be a help. Thanks again! :goodvibes
