or has it become old-fashioned,over-taken by paper crafts??

Does anyone know of any discount stores / factory outlets that sell cross stitch kits or accessories?

haven't done it in a while, but did just buy the cutest (and looks like a quick one) xstitch of tinkerbell and one of eeyore. ac moore, joann's michaels all carry xstitch stuff. maggie

I love to X-stitch but lately it has been hard to find any interesting kits in stores. There are lots online though and plenty of patterns available. I like doing smaller patterns....maybe 6 X 8 or so. I have a neat pattern of Mickey and Minnie and a snowman to put on a sweatshirt but I havent started it yet.

I actually did it quite extensively for about 10 years, but gave it up about 3 years ago. (In fact, I did a x-stitch for each member of my wedding party and for my Mom and Dad as a gift when I got married.) I have a large, almost finished item I got aggravated with. I even have the framing and matting for it already. It was to be a gift, but when I ran into trouble I just put it away. Haven't done much x-stitching since. But I've been tempted to pick it up again. It would be a great thing to do while waiting for DD at swim practice (hard to scrapbook at the pool, I've tried!). I find that my favorite patterns have come from magazines. I don't usually care for the "kits", as I already have HUNDREDS of the DMC floss colors already. I'd rather buy everything separately.

If you are looking for anything specific, let me know and I will see if I have anything....P

still popular around my area in Ohio....I know because I work at a framing store and they come in all the time. Tough to frame because some people get them all out of whack...:)

I used to do a lot of cross stitching, but haven't had the time in the past few years. But I do have a few projects I want to do. Rajah, who posts on the community board a lot has a link in her sig to her projects. I think she creates a lot of her patterns herself too, and she does beautiful work.

My "at home" craft time tends to be divided between sewing and scrapping. But over the summer while doing one of those clean the house from top to bottom and sort out the no longer needed stuff cleanings... :rotfl2: I decided I had way too many half finished projects including cross stitching items. Ok, granted some were projects Mom had started and never finished as her health deteriorated but I still decided they needed finishing. So I popped one into the little carrier that holds the project and threads and brought it to campus with me. I pull it out at odd times, like when students are taking exams! and have almost finished a Christmas sock that had been sitting for probably 5 years.

My plan is to finish this one and send it to DS next year when he is away at college. I have a second one too and maybe it will be ready when DD goes away. I love the hobby I just didn't seem to have enough time at home.

I just started this huge cross-stitch pattern. I bought it at the World of Disney store on my last trip. It is Walt and Mickey walking up the walkway in front of the castle. I'll probably be 80 years old before I ever finish it! It is absolutely beautiful in the picture though.

This was the first craft I really started. I still go back and do it when I have time. i think I have about 4 or 5 projects going. However, it takes so long to finish them! :rotfl:

Me too (same pattern, gosh it's huge!) My sister is doing much better than I am, mine's going to take forever. I'm good when I'm doing a project for someone else, not so good when it's for myself. I love crossstitching, it's probably my favorite craft, but I try not to buy too many patterns anymore, because I have at least 4 disney ones to finish, along with probably another 6 random ones...:rolleyes1 I do feel like I'm the only one who does it anymore, but that may be because I'm 27 and no one my age knows how to do it.

That is the cross stitch pattern I am working on now. I have had a tiny corner for a year. I've spent too much time scrapping. Maybe I will work on it during the Olympics.

I cross stitch when I have time and feel like it. I alternate between large and small projects.

I need to start on Xmas ornaments soon. I always do 1 for each of my 3 sisters and one for Mom. I was thinking of making this years Disney Oriented.

Most of the Discount Stores in my area don't carry cross stitch. Even JoAnn Fabrics and Michaels has reduced the amount they carry. At least I can still get DMC from them when I need some.

I'm forced to get most of mine on the internet. Unfortunately that means I have to wait and when I'm antsy to start a project, I want to start it NOW. :rotfl:

I do the Cross Stitch Quilts, Given them as Baby Shower gifts as well as doing the Seasons Quilt as a House Warming Gift.

They have been treasured by those that have received them. Everyone is always amazed that I actually put all that time into them and cry when they get one. Not often you get something that is not store bought anymore.

Here's the cross stitch i finished and framed.

It took me quite a while to do it but loved doing it.

That is beautiful! I can only imagine how long it took!
I love to cross stitch too. I've been working on "The Last Supper" for awhile and I can't wait until it's done!
