I was looking up our seats on the delta website. I kept noticing an empty row across 3 of the 4 flight we are on-there and back-and it was row 13. I never noticed this before. Its seems like everyone is avoiding this row. On our flight from atlanta to orlando, we are in 12-13 a & b. On that flight, i did noice someone is booked on 13G. It just seemed strange to me.

We are in row 13 on our way home. I had't even thought about it until you brought it to my attention. The person that made the seat assignments when I was on the phone just gave me a 4 seats....she didn't ask where I wanted to be, except aisle or window. Hopefully they won't be bad luck!!!

We're booked in row 13 for our trip in September to California. I guess there must be a lot of superstitious folks out there...I always figured row 13 was attached to the rest of the plane...wherever it went, I would go too.

i heard from a friend that the numbers 4, 14, and 44 are considered bad luck in certain cultures, it means death or something

heh, superstition...

Disneyfun. How funny that you posted this thread! We have been booked on a Delta flight out of Los Angeles to Orlando on November 23 for months now. We are a family of 8 and are flying all one row (7 of us) (767-400) and 1 aisle seat. We were originally in row 25 and 26 directly over the wings. When I discovered the seat maps on Delta I saw that Row 13 was completely empty AND alot closer to the front. So I called and said, hey I want Row 13 instead of Row 25. They were happy to move us. Then it hit me. Ohhh, Row 13. Of course then I had a case of "bad joo joo". Should I have moved? Maybe I was meant to be in Row 25? You know, that kind of stuff. Then I thought - shoot - I get off the plane a whole bunch faster in Row 13 and that's the worst part for me. After you land, just waiting there trying to get off the plane, especially coming all the way from California. Anyway, I'm thinking Row 13 is my lucky number!:D

I've never seen or heard of anything bad happening to anyone in aisle 13 on any of my flights.:)

Actually, there have been several plane crashes in which all the people on Row 13 were killed...of course, so were the other people on the plane.

Wasn't there a plane in which a piece of the roof came off and some people were sucked out? I wonder what row they were in.

that was hawaiin airlines or something close to that name. I remember when usair flt 5050 went off the runway into the flushing river..I had to work that and so many people yelled at me saying would you get on a flight if the nbr was 5050? it means you got a 5050 chance of making it....I don't believe in any of that.........

There are a lot of hotels that do not have a 13th floor.
The Holiday Inn on International Drive in Orlando is one of them.

Okay people. Can we NOT post about actual crashes and the people in Row 13. I'm flying in Row 13 soon and this freaks me out. I know, I know, I'm a big weenie....

What is on the 13th floor at the Contemporary? The elevator doesn't stop there, and from the outside, you can tell where the 13th is...

Many tall buildings simply don't have a 13th floor--it goes directly from 12 to 14--there is nothing in between. (Check the movie "Being John Malkovich" for a funny bit about a building with a half floor.)

Do you really think you could purge bad luck by just calling it the 14th floor? Seriously, apparently renters do not want to be on the 13th floor, but they will rent if you call it the 14th. Go figure. On a plane, all the rows are going to the same place, so I wouldn't worry about it--although that might be the row where they run out of the dinner entree you want--that could be bad luck, I guess.

hehe, yeah John Malkovich was hilarious w/ the half floor!

IMO, i wouldn't rent on 13th or "14th" floor! both numbers are bad luck depending on different cultures' superstitions. and besides, the "14th" floor might really the 13th floor anyway!

Never thought of this before. Now it is just something else I will need to worry about when I fly. Yikes! Actually, I hate to fly but still do but whether I sit in row 2 or 13, if the plane is going down, it's taking everyone, not just row 13.
I think that made me feel better in some obsecure way.

After I saw this I checked and noticed that I had chosen row 13 seats on two of my four flights. Thanks to all the superstitious people who left those great seats open for me! Where did this number 13 thing come from anyway? It's amazing the things people will believe.
