I've been trying to figure out the duty if you go over your alcohol limit. I tried navigating the customs website, and it was about as clear as mud. I asked Dave from DCLtribute, and he sent me an answer, but then I had some friends come back from the eastern with different answer. Basically, Dave said that the duty was 1-2% of the purchase price above your allowance, meaning that if you went over by $100, your duty would be $1-$2. But, my friend who just came back said that he asked at the alcohol shop on beat street, and they said they thought it was based on the "proof" of the alcohol. Does anybody know??? DH and I like to try new things, particularly things we can't get here in the states, and don't want to be obsessed about how much we are going to pay in duty, and don't want to be shocked when we deal with the customs agents. Also, the US Customs website says that you can pay duty with a check drawn on a US bank, but I've read elsewhere that it's cash only...should I print this page of the website and bring it with me as proof that they say I can do this??

I was told on board, cash or traveler's cheques, but that change was limited. I paid with a combination of both.

Also seemed that if alcohol was the only reason you had to seem Customs and the total duty was less than $10, they waived the duty fee.
