Does anybody know what happened on Star Search?

I don't mean to be disrespectful of the situation in Iraq but I really didn't need Dan Rather cutting into my evening so that I could listen to vague booms and to watch the city Iraqi skyline.

We missed the comedy and adult singer categories.

Anybody?

My 11yo DD has been complaining since they cut in. Can't help but agree that they could say it once and get it over with. They just keep repeating themselves. Pretty bad when even an 11yo wonders what the point of going over and over the same trivial information is

If you find out she'd love to know!

The last part I saw was the young singers because I ran to get fast food. So, I missed the dancers an on. Since American is suppose to be half the vote and noticeably we could not vote.......shouldn;t they redo the sections interrupted?

Sorry Dan interrupted Star Search with the possible beginning of a major war.....ABC agreed with you and kept running the all important Bachelor follow-up show.

I really hope you were saying this in jest....

PamOKW, I am not upset about the interruption to share the news. In fact, I'm not upset at all. I am very concerned about the war and have several close friends and church family members over there.

My comment was a more vauge one about 1)what happened on the show and 2) the network staying live, deteriorating into repetition and watchng the Iraqi skyline 3)and, yes, a tongue in check comment about the interruption of the show. My personal sense of humor is somewhat dry and/or wry and didn't translate well on this post.

I have the utmost respect for our troops and the reasons for being there. I am often annoyed when news reports show military actions as they occur and fall into giving opinions.

Please don't jump on me for a perceived shallowness that is not there.

Claudia1, I have to agree with you. Yes, I want to know what it happening internationally. But, in all reality, nothing was happening. I get up at 5 am, so for the networks to keep me hanging for so long was really tough. I finally fell asleep at 10:20. It just seems that the networks tend to 'manufacture' to keep us watching. Yes, the war is supremely important, but to keep showing us the same scene, over and over and to keep up the chatter in order to fill airtime is somehow taking the importance away. It's the same thing as when we were on high terror alert and the networks would flash these 'news flashes' across the bottom of the screen. And it was nothing important at all. So we tend to get desensitized in a way.

Claudia, as you know it's sometimes hard to come across on the 'Net as we would in real life. I didn't intend to single you out and I understand that you'd like to know the outcome of the show you were watching and I can respect that. It just seemed like there were several posts on the boards last night that were more concerned about Survivor and Star Search than the fact that our world was changing. This plays into what the rest of the world thinks of the US....we're more concerned about our day-to-day lives than any willingness to stand up for ourselves.

I know it didn't look like much was happening....but that's exactly how the war began in '91. There were a few blasts and then next thing you knew the reporters were diving for cover under the hotel beds. The understanding is that the beginning of this war will be an aggressive attack on Iraq. That's what the reporters thought might be happening.

If last night was the destruction of Saddam Hussein, I'm glad I did see it happen.

This is what is posted on the "official" CBS site -

The STAR SEARCH Finale was interupted by breaking news.

Please check back for future announcements regarding the conclusion of this tournament.

Thank You

I'm only saying that some of what was bumped last night might make things harder to understand(I'm only able to speak for those who missed Angel or anything with huge plot lines).Besides I see nothing bad in being able to watch something fun in a time of crisis
