Does anybody have a heat pump for their pool?

We are buying a heat pump for our pool. From what I have read it should keep the pool heated year round at minimal cost, about $30 a month. Everyone I know with a gas or electric heater never turns it on because they say it costs about $300 a month to run it. There are lots of days here that are warm enough outside to go swimming except the water is to cold. Heat pumps aren't very popular in Texas yet but my pool man said they are very common in Florida. So if anyone can tell me what they love or hate about their pool pump I would appreciate it.

We've had a heat pump (Heat Wave) for our pool for the past 7 years and love it. We are in New England...definitely different climate than Texas! The initial capital outlay for the pump was considerable as compared to a propane heater, but the additional electric bill costs for the summer season is only about $300-$400 (May-September)...much cheaper than propane would cost. For us, opening the pool in May...it will take the pump a few days to get the water up to temp (not as quick as a propane heater would be), our pool is larger than average, so there is a lot of water to circulate through. We set the pump to keep the water at about 82-84 degrees...so it will turn itself on/off to keep the water at temp. We do use a solar cover to hold the heat in as our nights can get chilly. We've only had one problem/repair and that was this past summer...a switch went bad...service was excellent and easy on the wallet... maybe $150.

Thanks for the info. Our pool is small, about 15,000 gallons so we only need a small pump. We wouldn't need to turn it on from mid-April to mid-October. I just want to swim year round.

Interesting....We just had a pool put in last year and have not heard about it.

We have got into the hot tub but have not turned it on for the pool.
