Does Airborne really work??

It does what it is intended to do.

And that is to make some people extremely rich.

As far as preventing or curing colds?
No, it doesn't work. If it did, there would be valid scientific study that showed those results and they would be widely promoted. The one "study" that Airborne did was by a 2-man "company" that was setup specifically for that purpose and run by a "scientist" with no college degree.

I played golf last weekend and didn't get a cold this week. I guess golf prevents colds. Oh, I also flew to Tampa last week and didn't get sick. It must have been because I had some tic-tacs on the flight. They should really start putting on the Tic-Tac label that it prevents the common cold.

Come on people!
Correlation does NOT equal causation.

Just because you took Airborne and either didn't get sick or recovered quickly, doesn't mean the Airborne had anything to do with it.

I've been using Sambucol over the past few years with my family, with great success. It won't prevent getting a cold or flu, but if you start to take it within the first 24 hours of symptoms it will greatly shorten the duration. It contains black elderberry, which is a natural antiviral.

I am drinking some right now (I dissolve it in water). I don't know if it really works, but I guess it isn't really hurting me or anyone else, so I will go ahead and do it. The worst that can happen is that my pee will turn a scary-awful color! :rotfl:

I know there are skeptics and there are studies saying supplements like this don't work. All I know is that, when I get a cold, I get SICK sick sick and stay sick for a long time. I take it really hard. But, when I take Zicam at the first sign of a cold and continue with it according to the directions, my cold is very mild and tolerable, and doesn't last as long.

Scientific studies be damned. I'm taking my Zicam.

I'm going to look into starting something like this. Can't cost much to do even if I make no money doing it. Might lose a little, might break even - might get rich like the airborne people.

It used to be cold-ease that was the miracle cure, then it was airborne. Maybe I'll have the next one!

If people are willing to pay for it, why shouldn't I take their money?

I'm such a dork. I'm really going to look into this. How hard could it be?

:) :) :)

Make it taste like a martini or a beer for adults, and candy for kids. Can I be an investor?

We're not looking for investors at this time. :rotfl: But we do need a study done. We do need to be able to say you have some medical background...are you a health care professional? Wait before you answer. Have you ever, while babysitting, put a band-aid on a kid? Because if you have, you were paid for medical-related services, making you a health care professional!

Now go do a study. It doesn't matter how you do it, just so long as the results say that my stuff works. I'm not going to tell anyone who you are or how you did the study so don't worry too much.

I just have to honestly say that a study, run by and reviewed by health care professionals (I have friends), was done and the results proved that my stuff works. :)

I think Airborne (or any of the other multi-vitamin supplements) works just as well as the 16 oz of pure Florida Orange Juice I drink when I feel a cold/sore throat coming on.........

Meaning, I don't really know if it helps, but I definitely prefer Orange Juice (especially if now and again a little vodka mayhaps spills into the glass) to vitamin tablets.

I am skeptical of market based research surveys in general and especially those funded by product vendors.

I completely understand what you're saying.....BUT, in my experience of teaching 120-150 middle school students with runny noses and hacking coughs, when I start to feel the tickle in my throat of an on-coming cold, if I take Airborne religiously every 2-4 hours, voila! No cold. If I don't start it right away, then forget it, it does nothing for me. I've never started to get symptoms, done nothing, then didn't get sick. Once I get symptoms, I get sick (unless I take Airborne!:rotfl: )

As far as taking it proactively to prevent a cold, I can't say definitively that it worked. I used hand sanitizer 20 times a day. But for whatever reason, I didn't get sick. Maybe alot of it was mental. I was so ready for the surgery that there was no way I was letting ANYTHING prevent me from having it. I've been home now for 3 months post-op, haven't taken Airborne, haven't gotten sick.

When I go back to work Jan. 2, when the kids start passing their colds to me, I'll try Airborne again. I'll let you know the results.

Thanks for being a voice of dissent. I love posts, opinions, and viewpoints that make me think a little more!

I tend to get about 3 colds, tops, a year. I fly more than the average person. I go out into crowded areas during the winter. So....I would think that I am as likely to get cold germs as much, if not more, than the next person. I have tried Cold-Eze, Airborne, and Zicam. They all really bother my stomach. Must be all that zinc. Anyway...now, I wash my hands religiously, keep my hands away from my face (eyes, nose etc.) and I take a good supplement daily...has a bit extra C and minerals (much the same as the Airborne and Zicam but not nearly as much zinc). I seem to be doing pretty well so far.
I wonder if those colds/sore throats are better sooner because of the additional fluids going in?! I know that as soon as I feel 'coldy' I start really pushing fluids, until I feel like I'm drowning. But, it does seem to help.

My DH swears by Airborne. I've been skeptical since he started using it last winter, but I am thinking about trying it when I feel my next cold coming on.
