Does a deposit "lock in" a room rate?

I know paying in full will "lock in" the room rate, but I'm wondering if I just paid the first night deposit, and the room price increases btwn now and the trip, will I be subject to the rate increase too when I pay in full for the room-only reservation?

Appreciate any feedback on this!

cheers,
:)

It always has for us, that would be in the current year, if you are booking 2016 there might be a price increase or I should say most likely...

Thx wagner1225 for the quick reply!

Sorry, I should have clarified: if I book through wdw's website now for a room-only booking in 2016.

cheers,
:)

Once Disney releases rates, they do not change. Your rate will not increase unless you change to a higher priced resort or room type or change to a higher priced season.

Once you deposit, your costs will not change. You do still have the option to adjust the reservation in the future, for example it's not uncommon for us to find a better discount and then alter the reservation to make it lower cost but disney will not just suddenly adjust the cost. There are some situations they might lower it, for example the resort you picked starting renovation while your there. They will properly inform you if they do anything.

I always deposit and pay off at the last moment. I prefer paying them less than trying to get a refund if it lowers.

Agreed with strategy of paying off at last moment. My experience was that refunds took a while once rate was lowered.

Unless you "upgrade" your room - your room costs will not go up if you are doing a room-only reservation/deposit. You can try to get it to go DOWN if a special offer pops up later - but you have to take advantage of the deal pretty much in the first day or two it's released or you get a room with a discount.

Thx a mint all for the replies and info - you are all fabulous!

I did not know the rates do not go up once they are released (unlike other hotels)...good bit to know!
Looks like I'm good to go then! I also prefer the funds in my account rather than Disney's...for a few months anyways. :rolleyes1

Once the room rates have been posted for the coming year, the prices will not rise. And you may be able to lower them if you can get a discount.

But there is one circumstance where the rate may rise, even after you have paid the deposit. You can make a RO reservation up to 499 days before check in.(only by phone). If the rates for those dates have not yet come out ( ie: for Jan '17) you will be quoted the highest price for the current booking year (2015/16). Once the rates for your dates are announced, your rate will be adjusted to those rates.

Okay, thx for the clarification for future bookings. I've booked for released 2016 rates so I'm set. :yay:

What other hotels do this? I travel often for work and vacation, and once I make a reservation, the confirmation shows the price that I have "contracted" for. I've never had a hotel raise that rate on me as long as I don't make any changes.

We always do room only at Disney because we use the Military Salute discounts. Pay one night deposit and the balance when we arrive.

I think you may be speaking of hotels where they have a set amount of rates per room category or price levels, and when they are sold out, they are sold out, meaning that the "price" of a room goes up for any other reservations that are made.....but when you say yes to a rate ANYWHERE and book a room, the price doesn't move....unless its on you for changes....if you had a hotel change your price after you agreed on a rate and booked a room, somebody at that company needs to me notified.....
