Does a 9 year old REALLY have to get a 4 nugget happy meal with DDP?

The only kids meal offered at Restaurantasaurus is a 4 nugget happy meal. Is that really the only thing kids can order with the DDP? My 9 year old could eat at least 2 of those meals!

It looks like that is the case. Maybe choose a different counter service restaurant at Animal Kingdom?

That does stink...

You eat his Happy Meal and let him have what you order. Or at the least share.

On our recent trip in December we were able to order our daughter an Adult dinner on our DDP when she didn't like something on the menu. Usually, the credits are seperated into Adult credits and Child credits, but this trip it wasn't.

Nope - this isn't the case. Children's credits ARE separated from Adult's. If the child is 10 or older though, you would have had to purchase adult credits. So, perhaps that is whey they didn't look like they were separated.

When my son was nine, he was a huge eater. So, even though he would have qualified for child's credits, I would have upgraded and bought him the adult ones. Or, I might have given him my credit for certain meals and eaten off of the child's menu myself (I could certainly stand to cut back!) LOL!!!

When I was there in December this was the case. My child is only 5. They credits were together on this trip. They usually are seperated, but this trip they were not. Maybe it was a mistake, but that was how it was for us. We got more Adult cs on our trip then kid ones.

From what I have read, unless things have changed, only TS meals seperate the credits between adult and child. The CS meals are all still together.

The kids meals are generally small. While that may be fine for a 4 year old, it may not be enough food for a 9 year old. I made my 9 year old 10, for our upcoming trip. I bought him an adult ticket and the adult deluxe dining plan. The CM told me people do it all the time with older kids.

We went when that child was 8 with the kids plan and he was miserable the entire trip over his food choices. It didn't help that his brother was on the adult plan and getting WAY better choices than him. :rotfl: Now that will no longer be an issue for us. My daughter will be 6 (on the kids plan) when we go, but she doesn't eat nearly as much as her brothers and could pretty much eat mac n cheese every day if I let her.

Every time we mention our May trip, our 9 year old asks "I'll be able to order off the adult menu, right?" I think he still really remembers that pita pizza and Just dip it kid choices!

Ditto for us - same issue - I have a son who is an adult by dining standards and a 9 year old who LAST year was ready for the adult food. It had worked out okay because my eldest was still picky and thought the kids meal food was great. This year he is on the verge of teen-dom and eats like a horse - the 9 year old is going to be hungry (or, more than likely, I'll be eating a lot of chicken nuggets and carrot sticks because he'll eat my meal....)

I should have bumped him up....maybe we'll look into that still....

When we last visited in Nov-07, DDP had started to separately track adult and child credits for the TS meal, but NOT for the CS meal. This was nice b/c our children generally prefer the adult CS selections over the usual Mac&Cheese, PBJ, etc.

I've read that, for 2008, DDP will separately track adult and child credits (presumably for BOTH the TS and CS meals). Has anyone confirmed (by experience in the parks) that this is true for the CS meal credits?

Yes, you are correct. CS has always been pooled and TS is separated between adults and children.

I haven't read reports of that from anyone yet, and I honestly don't see how Disney could do it as long as there are still CS restaurants without kids menus. To seperate the CS credits would mean that kids' CS couldn't be used in places like Pizza Planet, Main Street Bakery, and Refreshment Port (among others). I don't think Disney is going to do this. I think they're just going to be more vigilent about checking the party size on the KTTW card when taking CS orders, so that a party with 2 adults and 2 children would only be able to order 2 adult meals in a single transaction. For most people, that will be enforcement enough because they won't want to wait in another line to conduct a second transaction for more adult meals.

Nobody is making sure how many people in your pary size when your ordering counter service. We had no problem odering Adult meals for our child. Most times we order just two meals at a time, not three. Before I get flamed we did not do this on purpose. When we use our CS we never get the full three meals at one time. I asked my husband how many child/Adult credits we had left and thats when we discoverd they were not seperated.

My son was 9 last year and he's very tall for his age. Now at 10 he's 5 feet and 90 lbs so as big as many teens. Yes, the childs meals were not enough food for him especially since he doesn't eat fries. I usually was able to order something like a double cheeseburger and I would give him the bun with one burger patty and keep the extra patty for myself. You can order an extra bun but I don't eat the bun anyway when I eat fries. The breakfast meals were big enough for him so we used some of his child credits for those and then bought a few extra adult things like pizza. Usually we had enough extra food to trade around that it was fine especially with also having snack credits. Now that the kids meals seem to be calorie controlled they are not enough food for bigger kids especially the protein part.

that is NOT true... we had two rooms, two ressies, two sets of cards, four people... i had 1A/1C on my card and dh had 2A on his (one kid was 9, the other 11)... i was ordering for dh/i (we constantly mixed and matched our credits w/minimal hassle) w/my 1A/1C card at a CS restaurant and was DENIED 2A meals... my stance was if i had 10 A CS credits available (which i did!) i should be able to order all TEN of those meals at one time/one place if that were my desire (to be a glutton or to feed the birds! my choice!) and again, even with management interference, i was DENIED! dh had to bring his 2A card to my rescue (from halfway around the World Showcase) so i could get the second meal...

btw, this was at Mexico CS and the kids (neither the C nor the A) were eating but rather were heading to eat in America where the fare was more their style... and we were going to meet w/the food in the middle...

so, some CS CMs *DO* care how many is in your party size!

I'm wondering if this is one of those "it all depends" thing....our last time was on the 07 DDP so perhaps that's the difference, but my dh and I ended up with cards that could be used interchangeably and we could have gone up to a CS and ordered 3 adult CS at any given time (provided we had that many credits left) and been okay. We did it a couple times in AK as well as in MK (never happened in EPcot or MGM).

The child meals are too small and boring for many 9 yr olds. My DS is so excited to be 10 for our next trip. Last year we ate at many buffets and shared a lot at other meals as well as purchasing a little extra to accomodate his appetite. Also, some CS offer better choices than others.

Last year, with kids 6 and 8, we found we were ordering adult CS meals for them about half the time. As we were cash guests, we didn't mind too much; the difference between an adult and kid meal is usually less than $5, including a bottle of water.

I'm wondering if this is one of those "it all depends" thing

The "adult CS limit" is policy. As with nearly all policies at WDW, it is not always universally enforced. If I were planning on ordering more adult meals than I had adults on my KTTW card, I'd assume that I had to somehow order in two transactions---either by having two adults split up, or one adult go through a line twice. Sometimes you won't have to, but sometimes you will.
