Does 10 yo DD have to order from adult menu?

I know the prices are now for 9 and under for the kids meals. I get it on the buffets and don't mind paying the adult price for those because there is several different foods and you can get how much you want or if you don't like something you can get something else. I do; however, have a problem paying $18-$30.00 for a dish that my 10 yo might not like and will be stuck with and even if she did like it would probably only eat 1/4 to 1/2 of. At TS meals that you order a dish.....can she order from the kids menu or if not share with DH or I? If we have to, we have to. Has anyone done this?

Yes, she can order from the childrens' menu- BUT- you might be charged a higher price and get a larger amount of food than the regular child's portion. Some restaurants are taking a hard line about the age limit, and some (most) aren't. They won't make your DD order something she doesn't like, just because she is over 9. but she might be charged up to double the kids' price for the same (although larger portion) meal.

I've heard of adults ordering from the kids menu before, however i'm not positive. I think it depend on your server because some allow it and others don't. Because she is only ten I don't see why they wouldnt, but it really depends on where you dine.

My DD (13) ordered off of the kids menu for all meals during our two trips to WDW over the past year.

She just likes simple foods, and every restaurant accomodated her requests. She also looks more like a fifteen year old than a 13 year old, and no one said a word about her being too old to order off of the kids menu.

Can you believe this kid could eat all of the fresh lobster and seafood she wants but won't even consider trying it! Her grandparents own three restaurants and still, she orders grilled chicken with rice!

if she doesn't want a steady diet of mac and cheese or chicken fingers she might like to order an apppetizer as her entree. some kids hate ordering from kids menus once they are "adult " enough to get an adult meal( at least my kids couldn't wait to not get kids meals much to my pocket's regret)

My 12 year old son ordered from the kids menu everywhere we ate in October. No one batted an eyelash and he was charged the kids menu prices.

My 10yo was offered the kids menu at all the restaurants we at at during our October trip, we did not use a dining package.

I agree with the poster above who suggested appetizers - often my girls will choose a salad and soup or appetizer instead of the kids meal selections. They get tired of chicken nuggets and hot dogs after a while.

Thank you all! Depending on where we are at, if she wants to order from the adult menu I will let her and if she wants to order from the kids menu I'll let her do that too. I don't mind paying double (kid's price) for a little more food than the reg. kids menu. I just don't want to pay $25-$35.00 (except at a buffet) for something she may not eat. She does try new things, but buffets are better for taste testing. The appetizer idea is a good one as well. We'll check it out.



Mich Mouse: If my parents owned several seafood restaurants my DD would be ordering lobster, crab and shrimp all the time! SHe loves shellfish! So do we! I am envious!

We asked for both menus at every restaurant for our 11yo. He likes all kinds of things, but cannot really finish an adult portion. If there was something interesting on the kids menu, he would usually get that, if not he ordered from the adult menu.

The only restaurant where the waiter resisted giving us a kids menu was Sci-Fi at MGM. My son wasn't that hungry and only ended up having a chocolate shake even though my DH had the waiter bring a kids cheeseburger anyways.

My twins are 12, but they don't eat a 'full meal', so we have split meals before. Sometimes we have order two adult meal for the 4 of us, and that way we have room to try a dessert too! We did this at Italy and then got their dessert sampler plate. We loved that meal.

My teen DS also does the appetizer thing. He has ordered a salad and 1/2 rack of ribs locally. Sometimes soup and the potaote skins off the appetizer menu. Other time our teen DS has gulped down a 1/2 pound cheese burger.
I guess it depends if he is growing that day.

Our tween DD does pasta/pizza/chicken finger diet - so she'll be going the childrens menu.

The only place you will be charged adult prices - pre-reservations such as HDD or Spririt of Aloha, also at buffets, full adult price for ages 10 and up.
Maybe even LLT, since the food comes out on one large plate for all to share.

See, I thought that kids 10+ HAD to pay adult prices..not just at buffets or Show type dinners (SoA, HDD, etc.) OK..I get it now. So if we go to ESPN Club or Mama Melrose or Marrakesh my 10 yo can order from the kid's menu? That's great..I'll be saving more than I thought!
