Today, I had a 2 PM appointment at the ortho doctor for my knees. The arthritis in them has been quite painful and the prescribed arthritis medicine, cortisone shots, fluid extraction and glucosamine chondroitin (thanks DIS'ers) has not done a whole lot. On my last visit to the ortho guy, back a few months, he said if these don't help, probably arthroscopy would be in order.

So, the purpose of today's appointment was to have him poke and prod a bit and, more than likely, have him line me up for a scope on one or both knees. I sat in the waiting room (huge doc practice, huge room) for 65 minutes beyond my appointment time. I was ready to walk out three different times, but hung in for a bit more. At 3:05, I am called. I go to one of the MANY appointment rooms, telling the PA my thoughts I had about leaving. She said, 'yes, we're busy'. She said, 'Let me go get your X-rays from your last visit'. After 35 minutes, (no PA, not doc) I got up, walked to the front desk, made another appointment for later in the month, and left.

Such a lack of common courtesy and reciprocal value of one's time!!!!!

PS: Title addition at suggestion of TLK. He is a good one. :)

It can be very frustrating at times, I know. Sorry you wasted an afternoon, Dan.

So sorry to hear that you had such a horrible time at the doctors today....and twice as sorry to hear that you have problems with your knees!:( I had no idea! I hope when they do get a chance to see you, they are able to fix you up! :D Please take it easy and feel better!

That's not the way I run my practice.

My mantra is regarding doctor's offices......

If they are too busy and treat their patients that way...sooner or later they will find themselves less busy.

If, on the other hand, the office has the reputation of "being the best doctors in the city" then you either suck it up as a patient or find the second best doctor in the city.

Awww...Dan....:( I'm sorry you had to deal with that!! :( what a bummer...and how maddening it can be!!.....

I hope and pray that's not the type of "visit" you'll encounter on your next appointment!!

Such a lack of common courtesy and reciprocal value of one's time!!!!!

sounds like that visit was run by "someone" here! :(:(:(

although many "doctors" can moan about HMO's etc...there's really no excuess for that type of "treatment" :(:(:(

A man speaks frantically into the phone, "My wife is pregnant, and her contractions are only two minutes apart!"

"Is this her first child?" the doctor queries.

"No, you idiot!" the man shouts. "This is her husband!"
;) ;)

Sorry you had such a lousy appt., Dan...I sure can sympathize on the knee problem, as I think I might be in line for a second scope on my left one.
Hope yours gets better soon:)

the "ignor" feature is especially good! :)

It takes a real arese to be SOOOOoooooo....NON compassionate!

Sorry you had such a wasted afternoon! And I am sure you are worn out from just sitting around. I hate to do that. Maybe the next time will be better!

LOL Eros...that was funny.

I had to take my babies to the dr yesterday. We had a 10:30 appointment and didn't get to the examining room until almost 12 and it was about 1 when we got out fo there. I almost went crazy too.

Sorry to hear about your knees. My mom has the same problem. She has to have a total knee replacment done. She's been putting it off for a while and toughing it out though since she doesn't have the money for it. I know how bad it can hurt because I've seen my mom go through it for a couple of years now. She has 0 cartilage in her knees.

Dave, when I have electrical problems in my heart, I am coming out to see you. :) And yes, the practice here does have a good reputation, reason for resetting the appointment and trying again in a few weeks. You have good mantra. :)

And thanks for your thoughts, all.

A man walks into a doctor's office. He has a cucumber up his nose, a carrot in his left ear and a banana in his right ear.

"What's the matter with me?" he asks the doctor.

The doctor replies, "You're not eating properly."
:) :) :)

DS & I each have seen "THE" hand specialist in town & had to wait 45 minutes each time. The most recent time, they took us last minute, but told us to get there by 10:45, as doctor had surgery scheduled at noon. By ten 'til twelve, we looked for him outside the exam room, thinking we'd been forgotten & he'd gone to surgery. He saw DS - but I sure would have hated to be his noon surgery!
Dan, would you have waited if you'd been given an explanantion? I know when I take my DM to an appt, she simply can't wait that long in a waiting room and/or the exam room. Yup, common courtesy seems to have left some medical practices!
(I hope you get some relief for your knees soon.)

Dan, might I recommend reporting this to your insurance carrier? I know, it might be pointless, but it might not. Sometimes insurance companies actually want to know these things.

Sorry you wasted your afternoon. Hope you at least brought a good book to keep you entertained!

I am sorry your visit or lack there of didn't go well. I hope the next one will.

I keep my Dr. running on time or a best as I can. We are a practice that sees all ages. We have alot of people who walk in and want to be seen. there are a few that are an Emergency and have to be taken care of. Our pts are usually very understanding when we do have an Emergency.

Doctors are whippersnappers in ironed white coats,

who spy up your rectum and look down your throats,

and press you and poke you with sterilized tools,

and stab at solutions that pacify fools.

I used to revere them and do what they said

till I learned what they learned on was already dead.

Gilda Radner 1986............we miss ya, Gilda:( :(

Sorry to hear that Dan... I have never had a wait like that ever! I hope that next time they will be able to see you in a timely matter!

That sounds very familiar, Dan. It isn't by chance the practice that is out of Holy Family and Lutheran General is it? If so, Dr. Mardjetco is wonderful, but always a long wait.

Dan, :( Sorry that happened to you.
I book by appointments and run on time. A doctor can do it too.
My OB_GYN runs his office on time and says he knows people value their time. He says it can be done. I believe him since I have never waited in his office.

I have told you to bring Marie and come on down to the Smokies. Keith's best friend and another friend are excellent orthopedic doctors. You'd be amazed at how fast we can get you in...:p In fact, you could probably be on the mend from surgery before that doctor ever lays eyes on you again!
