Who has a doctor that is always pushing new drugs? I know that the drug companies gives doctors kickback but when you walk out of the doctors office with a coupon for a free sample of a new drug, do you think that something is wrong with this. We are told that we need to take vitamins but most of the drug pushing doctors will not tell you to take any only to try this new drug. I like the side effects of these drugs because you will grow a new eye, be up all night, left leg will fall off and your butt will have a mind of its on. All for a new med that suppose to grow stronger nails!

Tell them you don't want it or throw it away.

They don't get kickbacks.

And, those free samples are the only way some people can afford treatment.

That said, I don't take anything unless I am absolutely certain I need it.

Id find a new doctor personally.

My Doctor knows that I dont take any drugs that arent absolutely neccesary.

I have to take 2 things besides a vitamin but that is it. I should be taking 2 more but I wont do it.

She understands this and doesnt push the issue. She knows that if I change my mind I will let her know.

I had a drug pusher of a Doctor once and I dropper her like a hot potato. I swear she diagnosed me with 4 different things that I didnt have just so I could take a bunch of drugs. BTW, she is now working at the prison.

Just free lunches and maybe a golf outing. Do doctors ever get anything good like a trip to a seminar from Drug reps?

They do get perks, aperson that once was a drug rep told me that a doctor informed her that some was giving him a big screen tv, he wanted her to give a bigger one. We are not talking about the free samples that help those that can not afford it but those that will try to get you to take a drug that the reps are pushing!

I'd suggest you find another Dr. - I have a great Dr. who works with me, who understands that I don't like to take drugs unless absolutely needed, and is helpful with recomendations for supplements from the health food store.

In the last 20 years? Interesting. Boy my dad is sure missing out if that is the case... :rotfl:

My dr's office no longer give out samples or coupons for any drug. They will give you an rx if you need it, but thats about it. They've even cut back on giving rx's for things like antibiotics. But, thats is why I go there. I like that they aren't quick to give you drugs.

FYI, perks are a thing of the past. Now the reps can't even do the dinner conferences where they feed the doc and spouse dinner at a restaurant while someone details them on a new drug. No more golf outings, weekends at the beach, etc,

Boy I wish we were given all that stuff! DH works ER, we don't even see drug samples.

I see drug reps carrying Olive Garden and Smokey Bones bags by my desk a couple of times a week. There are still perks.

I'm with the other posters who said that there are no more perks! My DH is a pediatrician and I can attest that no one is getting any big screen tvs (nor small screens for that matter)!

My DS dated a doctor's daughter and she said that every night of the week her dad could go to a dinner paid for by the drug companies and that as they walk through the door, each is paid 100.00 cash. Now that's not a ton of money/night but it equals about 36,000/year.
Also,we went to dinner at this doctor's house and my DH made a comment about the nice BBQ pit-it was a gift from a drug company.
All of this doesn't bother me until the docs start pushing drugs-you have to wonder why they are so in favor of 1 drug over another.
Because of this, our family has a local dr. for emergencies but we travel 60 miles to see a doctor for anything else. He believes in preventive medicine, vitamins, and minerals to replace what our depleted food supply can't provide. Our health has never been better. My DH used to have a gray complexion because of allergies, now he's pink and so healthy!!

LOL - perks! I had a Lomotil (diarreah medicine) piggy bank when I was a kid. My dad was a doctor, and as others have attested, the only perks he got were little things with the company logo on them. We had a sudafed advertisment that threw my grandma for a loop when she was visiting - a rubber jar opener that said "unstuffs stuffy noses".

Dad used to bring them home and we'd all fight over the paperweights, letter openers, pens, etc. The equivalent now would be mousepads and insulated car coffee mugs. I think they would bring in sandwiches, cookies, fruit- things everyone could snack on sometimes too. If there were trips, restaurant meals, or electronics - my dad was holding out on us!

Now, I will admit that I love when my dad sends me a bag of pens, though. My kids fight over them. But I get to go through the bag first!

YEah, they can feed the office, just not wine and dine the docs

I miss the pens and the post it notes:) . I occasionally see a pen. THe last batch of pens and sticky notes were actually given to me by my pharmacist at Target :rotfl: . Maybe they're the ones getting those perks now?

We are lucky to get ball point pens with the company logo and usually only if they get left behind. ;)

They do this in the hospital too. Every 6 months when the formula changes over from Similac to Enfamil (or vice versa) the rep will bring in lunch for the whole nurses unit.

Sometimes it Olive Garden, often it's sandwiches from Einstein Bagels....it just depends.
