I dont know if anyone has used this service. But a few days ago while I was in Orlando, I had to use this service and wanted to share my experience with everyone...especially those who might be stuck in Florida sick right now and thinking of calling the 24/7 doctors to come to your hotel room.
I'm a mommy and me and my family braved the 12 hours drive from North Carolina to Orlando to visit Disney and all the other attractions. As soon as we arrived in our hotel room within ten minutes, my youngest son vomited. Now becuase he had another issue going on, I took him to the ER at Celebration Health the next morning first thing, and he was there for over 48 hours.
In the meantime whilst I was with him in the ER, my husband was with our two older kids, ages 4 and 5 at the Nick Hotel. It wasnt very long after I took our youngest to the ER that the other two kids began vomiting and getting the runs. My poor husband did the best he could.
After a few hours at the ER with my youngest, I too, became ill. I called my husband who was more than happy to switch places with me because he does not deal well with the sickies. We switched places.
After a bad experience in the car and driving my other two little ones back to the hotel were we all could rest, we settled in for the long haul. Later that night I began to worry about my 4 year old, so I called a number on a sticker that the hotel reservationist gave me earlier when I was looking for a hospital. It was a number for a doctor's service that comes out to your room and sees you while your on vacation in your hotel room.
The nice man on the phone took my credit card number and told me the doc would be there shortly. So I waited and he came and examined me, my son, and my daughter. It took him about ten minutes. I thought...wow..this is so nice and awesome to have someone come out and see you and write prescriptions. He even had a local pharmacy delivery our meds which totaled almost 250.00.
I was so sick I didnt even ask about the bill for this doctor service. We had to go home a couple days after my son got out of the ER. So we had no fun in Orlando. We drove home with all our hopes and dreams dashed to pieces.
But that wasnt even the worst. To add salt to the wound, I looked into my account to see what the doctor have charged us for the service.
Brace yourself.
It was 1800.00 for that doctor to come and see me and my two kids for ten minutes. I was so shocked and mortified. I would never have agreed to the service had someone taken a moment to tell me what this was costing. I called the office location today to talk to someone about the charge and they told me its 599.00 per person. I never signed a piece of paper to authorize the charge and no one ever told me what it was going to cost before they came out. I felt like they tricked the hell out of me. It was insulting. I am working with my bank to get some of the money back.
So if you ever get sick in Orlando and need a doctor, think twice before calling doctors 24/7. Yes it is nice to have someone come out and help you...but they fail to be upfront with you about the costs of their services and sure they will give you forms to file a claim with your insurance company....but this service isnt covered so dont even bother with the forms. And this company knows this. They are preying on the tourist market in Orlando...charging you a HUGE FORTUNE and not even telling you what they are charging to your credit card.
So unless your rich, steer clear and opt for the emergency room rather than calling these doctors into your hotel room. Its a good thing we didnt stay longer...we wouldve have come up shy for cash for our fun filled adventure.
Just wanted to share my experience about this in hopes that no one else gets suckered into the scam.
