Does their therapy include drinking cooking oil?

no,they did'nt have to drink cooking oil.but we use it at the fire house when making chicken culets.does that count?
actualy they give them a albutrol (it dilates the bronci) then a hour of the steam theapy,more albutrol,then then a cough experdent(makes the body bring anything lose out of the lungs by coughing it out)like i said i know of these places,but never heard about tom cruise being involved,perhaps he just donatied the money to get them started by M.D.'s.alot in the FDNY have had this done and swear by it.
these are guys who after years with the FDNY were not allowed to go back to full duty,cause they failed lung test.these men,all they know is FDNY and were desperate to go back to full duty and willing to try anything to get there.about 90 percent in the FDNY,that have had this done swear by it,and only days after having it done all passed and continue to pass the FDNY lung test.but i never heard tom cruise having any connection to this theapy.and i know for a fact none of my guys had to drink any kind of oil.so maybe he(cruise) started a different kind of theapy,altough very simular to the one i'm speaking about.

The steam & albuterol therapy makes sense. I have asthma so I know that the albuterol will open you up and the steam will loosen the mucous etc but drinking cooking oil? The only thing that would do for me would be to make me vomit.
I stand by my original idea that Tom Cruise should not be dispensing medical advice. Until he receives his medical degree, he should stick to acting, as lousy as he is at it.

I searched and found nothing that says oil is part of this particular treatment. The general treatment (which may not be this specific one) is still a very small amout of oil. The bashers must know that many liquid medications include oil or similar ingredients right?

It does mention 2 tablespoons of oil as part of the treatment. The OP seems to make it sound like people were chugging gallons of Crisco each day. This doesn't sound that bad, in fact. There's some radical stuff in there, like the enormous amount of vitamin that they're saying you have to take, but overall, it doesn't sound nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.

I had a feeling that this was just gossip without merit. But then Tom really brought it on himself with his past weird behavior. I still like "War of the Worlds" though so he did what he was supposed to as far as I'm concerned.

I make a choice as to what I believe in and I do not put down others who choose to believe differently. I would like to point out, however, that Mr. Cruise himself has slammed those who seek medical treatment for their depression and has set himself up as a knowledgeable expert in various medical conditions. I think, therefore, that I am free to have an opinion about his medical or lifestyle advice.
So, tell me...I am supposed to trust a high-school dropout exhibiting seemingly manic behaviors when he dispenses medical advice and then I am supposed to distrust doctors who have gone to college and to medical schools and studied specialities for years?
I don't think so. But Mr. Cruise is free to think what he wants and I am free to have my own opinion of him, what he says and what he continues to do. More power to him. I hope he continues to express himself so vehemently.

Like Agnes, I don't care what Tom Cruise believes, but I don't like him criticizing others for following their physician's advice. One sentence turned me off from him for good. When he told Matt Lauer "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do." Yea, you know better than Brooke's doctor.

dh and I didn't see War of the Worlds because we didn't want to have to look at his self-righteous face for 2 hours, and we likely won't be watching any of his future films for the same reason.

I don't know enough about this latest endeavor to comment on it, but the steam part makes sense. Everyone knows that steam loosens up the "stuff" in your lungs and helps you cough it up.

I can see the albuterol etc treatment that mrFDNY is talking about. But I have a hard time believing that TC would get behind something that involved using steroids as that is what albuterol is.

The treatment as stated above makes a lot of sense. DS had a really bad croupy cough and after just two or three days of albuterol and expectorant he was a lot better.

I'm not slamming him for his religious beliefs, but rather his lambasting of a brilliant woman (and Brooke Shields is brilliant) for taking drugs to battle post-partum depression. I hope his wife doesn't have the same problems.

I also think his behavior has been off the wall lately, and I really wonder about his mental state. Regardless of what controls his personal feelings about recognized medical practice, he's really said a lot of hurtful things about some good people for their choice in their personal medical care. If he were a practicing Catholic (my religion) I'd be saying the same thing about him. I think he's having some sort of slow and terribly public breakdown, and it's a shame, because the drugs he eschews could possibly be very helpful to him.

From a medical standpoint, using inhaled steam to loosen up congestion is not a new radical treatment...my mother had us doing that as kids 35 years ago. Using a bronchodilator, steam therapy, and then an expectorant(which would make one cough up anything loosened by the bronchodilation and steam) makes sense. I would have no problem with that if it were performed under the direction of licensed medical personnel.

Last time I checked, Tom Cruise wasn't a licensed medical professional. My dislike of him and his recent antics has nothing to do with his choice of religion or lifestyle. My dislike of him has to do with the fact that he is getting involved in areas in which he has no expertise or real education, and there are people, because he is Tom Cruise, who will choose to listen to him.


Being a Hollywood star does not automatically make him an expert in everything nor does it make his opinions or choices any more or less valid than mine. He is a talented actor. He should stick to that and let those of us in the medical profession take care of the sick people.
