I’ve noticed lots of port adventures have been added to our Nassau day January 4 on the Dream and became curious- have any of the cruises docked in Nassau yet since the restart? Haven’t seen anything specific in trip reports-

A lot of people on my 11/1 Dream sailing are get quite nervous about the stop in Nassau. Does anyone have any Nassau specific data about Covid numbers and vaccination rates?

there is no ship in castaway on our Nassau day so it’s a bummer they didn’t continue the double
Dips a little longer :(

Bahamas as a whole are at 98 infections per 100K people reported last 7 days. Population is roughly 31% vaccinated.

Wow, so they have a long long long ways to go if standards of many U.S. cities apply. In Sacramento County we have a 62% vaccination rate, we at 14.5 infections per 100k people, and the Health Department says restriction will be lifted when we hit 5 infections per 100k. Wonder what scale the Bahamas will use?

The current vax percent (I got from WHO via Reuters) is why I keep saying the Bahamas will be requiring vax-only passengers for quite a while. It is a matter of supply and access for them.

When you were in Nassau, were you able to go shopping/peruse Bay Street on your own or was it DCL excursions only to leave the ship?

We ported in Nassau last Friday. If you are vaccinated, you could leave the ship as you pleased and explore on your own. If under 12 and unvaccinated, you must be a part of a disney excursion to leave the ship.

We stayed on the ship. The list of safety precautions on the navigator app was quite large for Nassau. Lots of people on our ship did get off and explore. And there were 3 other ships in port the same day. Lots of cruisers on the island.

We were there on Dream 10/19. Saw same as above - vaccinated individuals could roam free, unvaccinated had to be on a disney booked excursion. Protocols were tight, even for our tour which was 100% outside. Masks on outside as well (although that seemed a little lax in some places).

When going ashore in Nassau, did you have to show your Vax card on the brow or at the pseudo terminal at the head of Prince George Wharf? That thing is like gold, and don't want to be carrying it around if I don't have to.

I didn’t leave the ship in Nassau, but I did listen to Leslie telling everyone what to do to leave the ship. She said KTTWC and photo ID. We were parked next to another ship and I heard their cruise director telling them to take their vaccination card. They said some restaurants and shops would not let you in without seeing your card.

All of my party except DH and myself went ashore......so 6 others, in sets of 2, and none had to show anything.
They went to shops but not restaurants

This is along the same lines - asking here instead of trying to find an old thread due to Covid changes...

If we want to just get off the ship and explore, what is there to do within walking distance of the ship? We are trying to decide if we should keep our Pearl Island excursion. All will be vaccinated (assuming kids are able in the next few weeks), with 2 adults and 2 kids.

Some of the more popular sights within walking distance are the government building, the forts, the Queen's Staircase, the pirate museum, and the handcraft market. There are also some restaurants and shops, of course. And the Graycliff hotel / restaurant / chocolate factory.

Keep in mind that all of those sites will have locals trying to get money out of you, often in dishonest ways. For instance, at the market, some guy put bracelets on our wrists without really asking and then demanded money "for the kids, for schools" and got mad when I only gave him the last $10 that I had on me. At the Queen's Staircase, we happened to be nearby when a man was explaining the history of the site to another group of people and, when he saw us, he came over and demanded that we "fix him up" and wouldn't go away until we gave him money. Even just sitting outside the government building to get my camera out, a man walked up to us and started to explain where he could take us in his taxi and got visibly annoyed when we told him that we didn't want to go anywhere with him. You get the idea.

I don't bother to visit Nassau anymore without a guided tour. It's not worth the hassle.

Thank you, Kwami! This is exactly what I was fearing and helps us make a decision. My husband thinks we can just walk off the ship and explore but I don't think we want to do that. I would rather just stay on the ship that day! I did book the excursion just to have a backup plan.
