Is it because you disagree with my opinion?
Is it because I follow up on a topic?
Is it because of other reasons?

I need to know in order to have closure.
Then I will never post in this forum again, I promise.

Please reply to it here so that everything is out in the open.

I am not Doc, but i would like to make some comments based on recent observations I have made on this board.

All of the DIS Boards represent micro-communities. They are essentially groups of people interacting on many different levels all of whom have a common interest. As with any community, there are certain rules, both expressed and unexpressed, which are present for the common good of the community.

One of the unexpressed rules deals with mutual respect for one another as adults. When a participant in the board begins to fabricate threads, it is simply a waste of the other participant's time and energy. Take me for example. I have a job, a family, and a life. I come to the DIS DVC board to help others learn about DVC and to post legitimate questions and communicate with friends on topics related (sometimes loosely) to DVC. When I begin to have to sort through the posts because someone is making up posts, it loses it's attraction for me. Soon I leave. Others leave. Soon a community no longer exists. So for the good of the community, participants who are no longer interested in participating, but instead soley interested in advancing their own agenda, must be dealt with. And if this pattern of disruption is a chronic one, then banning of the participant is certainly reasonable.

Further, these boards are not a democracy. They are a private venture and are moderated for good reason. It is expensive to have server space for a large bulletin board like this. And while vigorous debate on certain topics is a healthy endeavor, spamming fake messages that take up server space and have no real purpose should not be tolerated.

Finally, I support Doc and the other moderators on their attempt to lend credibility and readability to this board.

I will not allow myself to be drawn into a debate about this in this forum. I have said my peace...

now on with the DVC discussions...

If this topic was designed to stir outrage, it didn't work. If you were banned, whoever you are (your post doesn't indicate original name) I'm sure the moderators have a good reason. One reason I appreciated moderated discussion boards is to keep a level of civility intact. I'm sure you will still be able to read the boards to get your information; if you can't post I'm sure it is justified somehow.

I have always been impressed by the fairness, evenhandedness, and openess with which the moderators conduct themselves and do a fabulous job in monitoring these boards.

Thank you for all your hard work and keeping DIS such an enjoyable place to visit. You do an outstanding job.

That is a worthwhile topic for a thread, not the nonsense listed in the initial post.

I would have supported deleting this entire thread if it were not for the very well stated post by my neighbor in London Ohio. Very well said.

For what it's worth (And I have no idea of the geneis of this thread or the reasons "One Good reason" was banned from the DIS board.)

In the early 1970's, during a debate on the the rights of a local law-making body to ban certain pornographic materials within it's city limits, a notable Supreme Court Justice said the following:

"Pornography may be disgusting, but their is nothing in a free and open society that is more obscene than censorship."

And so it goes....

Please note that it is not the moderators that ban individuals on the DIS. This includes, Doc, Carol and myself. This decision lies only in the hands of the Webmasters of the site. If you are confused on the reason that you were no longer allowed to post on this site. Please address your concerns to them.

Thanks TnRobin, and if "One Good" wants a "Reason," at least she/he knows where to get it.

BTW: As I read my post just now, it seems like it could have come across as a bit heavy handed. Let me be clear, I fully support the right of private boards to manage the content as they see fit. I just wanted to make the point that is always good to make (I think) in debates such as these that censorship is NEVER something to be taken lightly.

That's all. I'm done.

In addition to what Robin has stated very well above, I would like to remind everyone that we all read and agree to adhere to the DIS Posting Guidelines when we register to post on these Boards. They are fairly simple posting rules and 99% of the Board visitors have no problem following them. Thank you all for your supportive comments. Here is a link for those who would like to look again:

To my knowledge, no one named "One Good Reason" has been banned from this site.

As already stated, moderators do NOT have the ability to ban anyone. If guests here are in violation of some aspect of the site's guidelines, the Webmasters do have that authority, ability and responsibility. I have always tried to contact individuals by email or Private Message, when I have removed a post from this board. Sometimes I have received a comment in reply, but I have not received any such reply for quite some time.

As I suggested recently on this board, if anyone has suggestions regarding the way any forum on this site is moderated, please contact the Webmaster.

As for 1970's Supreme Court comments, I can assure you that there are innumerable communities where there are pornography laws enacted, which have stood the test of the Supreme Court or have not even been challenged. I can also assure you that pornography will NOT be tolerated on this website, even from a Supreme Court Justice!

As for this site, anyone who is posting here has agreed to abide by the guidelines set forth by the owner of the site. If you wish to challenge those guidelines, that is your right. If you lose your posting priviledges as a result, at least you can look in the mirror for someone to blame.

Doc - do you think this poster had anything to do with that "announcement" a week or so back indicating that the new DVC location had been picked and that membership and dues would be sky-rocketing so it would be a good idea to buy a re-sale? Could this poster and "Vacation Club Guide" be the same person?

Very well said Doc. Without rules (laws) society would become anarchy, and so would these boards.

Let me clear some things up here. My original post name is ttsui01. For reasons unknown to me, Doc had been closing and deleting EVERY single one of my posts about 3 days ago. The first being the thread about DVC Rentals.

In those threads, Doc claims to have closed them because I was being repetitive. Let me make this clear, the reason was that I was being REPETITIVE???!!! I didn't curse, I didn't post any pornographic photos, I didn't abuse anyone int those threads, I didn't flame anyone. All I ask was if there were any action taken by Disney regarding DVC renters yet.

When I asked why my threads are being closed, I received no answer other than I was being repetitive and that I should dig up the old thread and reply to it. In the interest of fairness, I ask all of you, why in the world would I be required to dig up a 3 months old thread??? And why is it that I am the only person required to do so?

After severeal request to Doc to explain his/her actions, NO REPLY, DELETED MY POSTS. I proceeded to link to two images: one of Bill of Rights and one of an Anti-Censorship logo.

Since then all my posts have been deleted and my usernames banned.

If anyone was offended by my posts, please write it here. I sure as heck couldn't find anything I did that was wrong.

This is the OFFENDING post:

I know most of the DIS readers would side with moderators no matter what happened. But please be sure you know both sides of the story before chiming in with your opinion.

Censorship is always fine until it happens to you.

Dear ttsui01,

I did a search and found 31 topics that you either posted or participated in and they haven't been deleted, I read through some of them and didn't think anything was offensive, sorry you feel persecuted (SP?) If you feel you were treated unfairly then I would send an e-mail to Pete and ask him to explain the reason.

ttsui - yesterday I spent 10 minutes replying to one of your posts before I realized I was wasting my time. You copied several (I counted 4) other posts word for word. Why? To laugh at everyone who fell for your little hoax and actually congratulated you on becoming a DVC member? To waste our time explaining how we go about purchasing airline tickets? To poke fun at whoever asked the original question? If you want a public answer as to why you were banned why don't you give us a public reason why you pulled such a 4th grade stunt in the first place?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I think it is time to close this post. The poster has been informed to email or PM the webmasters if he has additional questions concerning any of the reason for his deleted post and his eventual removal as a screenname. Such discussions are not appropriate in this public forum.

I would appreciate it if this topic ends here and is not restarted under a new thread. (Which I will delete.)
