Inspired by the vacation without kids thread...

As a child we would go on trips with our grandparents, and my girls will occasionally go spend a week or two in Ohio with my parents. I also went to Cape Cod one summer with a friend when I was 14.

This past summer I took my best friend's daughter (who's 8) to Ohio with us for a week and she had the time of her life....she hasn't traveled alot of places and if you hear about her trip to Ohio she makes it sound like Disneyworld. :rotfl: Now if this weren't my BEST FRIEND's daughter who is like family to me I would not have taken her, but she had a blast and I was glad that we brought her.

Who's children go on trips without them?

Yes for the past two summers, my DD14 went back "home" to stay with my mom and dad and her very close friend (they're like family to us). She even went to Cedar Point for a long weekend with her friend (our close friends). She stayed a month both times. My DS11 went with her last summer as well. They're staying with my parents, so I'm not sure if you'd call it a vacation. They had to fly alone (non stop), so that alone was a personal growth experience.

my kids go to camp and on mission trips. They have also gone on a few overnight trips to conferences, theme parks and on ski trips.

My oldest DS went on several vacations with my parents, but because they aren't in the best of health, they no longer take the kids on vacations, but will take them on weekend getaways.

Just yesterday DD15's best friend asked if DD could go with her family to the beach for a week. :beach: I'm not sure if that's what you mean or not. :confused3 We usually take one of DD's friends on vacation with us as well.

Yep, that's what I meant!!

As a child I used to spend time with my grandparents during the summer. My parents would take their vacation at that time too. They loved going to historic places and we were glad not to have to go along! When I had my own family, neither of our parents would take the kids longer than overnight, so the kids went to camp and we went on vacation that week. Everybody was happy. Of course, I'm older than the vast majority of DISers, with my oldest DGKids in high school now - there was no Disney World when my own kids were young.

DS14 is going to China with his school band this spring. The kids have all gone to summer camp, spent weekends/weeks at Grandparents/Aunts-Uncles, etc.

My kids are still little, but my older son did go with my mom to visit my sister and neices in Philly one time. Oh and he's also been to my parent's lakehouse (3 hours away) twice without us for a weekend.
