Do your kids tell jokes for Halloween?

Is this trip for me or the kids?!?!

Here in St. Louis it is tradition for kids to tell jokes as they are trick or treating on Halloween. When my husband (who grew up in Chicago) experienced his first Halloween here he thought we were all crazy (and what a waste of time...takes longer to get candy :lmao:). Just wondering who else in the US tells jokes in their neighborhood on Halloween??

Any fresh (kids friendly) jokes would also be appreciated by our neighbors!

Never heard of that and I have lived in 3 very different parts of the country! Over many years.

That would take so long and when there are 150+ kids coming to your door how would the logistics work out?

OP wasn't lookin' for comments but jokes. Here's mine.

What did the girl ghost say after she looked in the mirror?

Wow, I look BOOOOOOOOtiful!

I live in North of Scotland and all the kids tell a joke or sing a short halloween song. It is really good fun the kids are doing something twe see it he way and to get their candy.

My dd who is 5 is telling this joke

What do you call a fat jack o lantern?

A plumpkin.

She loves this joke and is dressing up as a pumpkin.

Growing up in Indianapolis we had one neighbor who did this you had to sing a short song, tell a joke, or some other talent. If the child was really nervous or couldn't come up with one they got candy anyways but it was fun. We still remember this and talk about it almost every year but don't remember the countless other houses we went to and I'm nearing 40.

I grew up in St. Louis, too -- and I'm so glad we don't bother with that in Boston! Much quicker moving the little darlings along -- of course we get about 300 kids in under 3 hours, so I'm don't want to stretch it out! I asked my dh who is from NH, and he said they just took the candy and ran. He had some pretty cold winters further North!

I've never heard of that either, interesting.

My son told me this joke the other day:

How do you mend a broken jack o' lantern?

With a pumpkin patch

Ok those jokes are CUTE!!!! We don't usually have anyone tell us anything, but I love this idea....especially since we decorate our house all spooky, maybe me telling a joke will help the littles. :) Maybe I will start a new tradition for our neighborhood.....:)

We do it, not necessarily at every house, but if the kids want to or if the person asks if we have a trick. Last year they were Clifford and Goofy, so they told dog jokes (How do you know when it's raining cats and dogs? When you step in a poodle). This year DD11 wants to tell this one:

What did the spider order at McDonald's?

French flies.

DD8 made this one up herself:

What did the cat say when it was frightened?

You scared the hairballs out of me!

Thanks for some new jokes...they made me laugh out loud! DS8 is telling this one:

Why are graveyards so noisy?

Because of all the coffin!

Surprised to hear that more cities don't do this...and that they do in Scotland!!! Maybe they were Scottish settlers who carried this tradition to St. Louis...I'm Scotch/Irish so I'll go with that theory! While it can get tedious when there's a big group and everyone wants to tell their jokes, it's actually a fun way to get to interact with the kids a bit and enjoy the costumes rather than just dropping candy in the bag and having them run off!

Never heard of this either! I can't think of any good jokes right now, but my kids will enjoy the ones told above! They are cute jokes!

Ok, I have to add to this, but get ready for the "ick" factor...I have a son, so I know everyone understands how gross they can be sometimes.

When he was little, every year, the same joke...."why did tigger stick his head in the toilet?....he was looking for "pooh" ":rolleyes1
