Just wondering.. DGD's district doesn't - nor does one of them up here near the lake..

DS does not have school today.

I don't think it's ever been a day off here. It's just not scheduled that way.

Nada, I don't even remember schools ever being open here on Veterans Day - public or private. Post offices, banks, and some other businesses closed too! :goodvibes

Where we live the kids are off but where DH works the kids have school. They had off 3 days last week for Election day and NJEA teacher's convention so the district didn't want another day off this week too. In NJ, it seems to be up to the individual district.

No school here! One son marched in the parade this morning so we still had to get up early. At least it didn't rain.:)

No school here in CT today and the kids came off the bus yesterday with a note from the district saying there would be no school on Thurs. or Fri. either due to illness (swine flu). They are also recommending that the kids avoid being in public during the same period of time... so stuck at home for 5 days in a row.

I don't think I'd mind so much except we are a small district in a larger area. So, our kids will avoid the germs from others for 5 days but next week when kids start going to sports with kids from other areas, they'll be exposed to new germs. I'd be willing to bet that there will be a good chance of Swine Flu sweeping through the school again in a few weeks or a month.

We had school but DD goes to a small Catholic school. They had a half day for parent/teacher conferences and they did a program for the local veteran's this morning at the school.

We have school here. Not sure why, it is a federal holiday, isn't it? But I've never lived anywhere it was a day off school, or worked anywhere that it was a day off work. :confused3

For those who do, do you happen to know the reason behind it? Do they get some other day off that other schools normally don't?

Yes, my kids have school today. Probably time made up for the once a month early releases for staff seminars, days off for parent-teacher conferences, teacher work days (work on grading/report cards), this year a teacher convention, and extended holidays that include holy days off.
