Do your kids have school on Columbus Day

I am curious to know if your kids have school on Columbus Day. Here in Virginia Beach the kids do have school and DH and I are a little surprised because growing up we always were off.

Some schools have switched out the Columbus Day holiday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

Since you are in Virginia, you'll have Lee-Jackson-King Day, the country's Most Bizarre Holiday, in which the achievments of Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Martin Luther King Jr are simultaneously celebrated.

Our schools are closed Columbus Day, MLK Day, and almost every other holiday.

No wonder we don't get out of school until June 28.

Kids have school here. I'm always so grateful when CD rolls around each year since it's the first day off all year that I'm off without the kids! (It's a great day to get an early jump on the Xmas shopping.)

Not only do our kids NOT have school on Columbus Day, they are off the Friday before, and have a half day the Thursday before. We're actually trying to figure out if we can make a quick long weekend trip away.

Of course, come June 28th I'll be moaning that they are still in school

Public schools are closed here on Columbus Day (not colleges), but it is a teacher workday.

School is off Monday and Friday (teacher inservice). I never got Columbus Day off when I was in school. I didn't get a spring break either!

We go to school on Columbus Day, and then have Thursday and Friday off. I don't know why, but we are going to use that time for a weekend getaway.

We get MLK day off, but not President's Day. Instead, we get off Feb 17th - Rodeo Day!

I forgot to add, that in our school district, we don't have Columbus Day off, but the kids do get State Fair Day off (two days in fact, because the teachers have an inservice the day after Fair Day).

Students also get free tickets to attend the fair on Fair Day. But I have never used mine - no way I want to be in the same place as 5000 elementary school kids!

My DD has school on Columbus Day. They don't have a vacation day until Thanksgiving. We get a lot of snow and use a lot of snow days so the schoold district took away some of the school holidays but they will be out eariler in June.

My kids are out of school on Columbus Day and they also have the next day (Tues.) off for school improvement day or something like that. That's why we're going to Disney!

We do not get columbus Day off. Never have. It is a long stretch ffrom Labor Day until Thanksgiving!

Hi Debbi! The kids have Columbus Day off... we also get the first day of hunting season (Monday after Thanksgiving) off here in PA!

Not only do our kids have Columbus Day off, but the Thursday and Friday prior are Parent/Teacher conference days, so no school.

I always think it is the perfect time for WDW!
