DH has the finished basement to call his own. No bathroom down there so I do see him occasionally.
DS10 has the upstairs - big bedroom, toy room and bathroom w/shower
And I have the main floor of the house w/master bedroom, 2 baths with tub/shower, living/dining room, kitchen and den

Small house but it seems big enough for us - lol

My dh has the basement where his workbench and tools are.... I never go down there (since my washer and dryer are now on the second floor in my bathroom!:D ) But that's it- the kids and I share the main floor and upstairs.

YES!!!! And my family sometimes thinks we're weird!!!!! DH is a smoker so has a room behind/off the garage (have to walk through the garage to get to it but it is attached to the house)..it's set up so he can virutally live there (except for no potty)tv, pc, fridge, microwave, recliner, etc. Since he is a smoker we also have that room on a separate ac/heating/vent system. DS has the basement of the main house---living room, bedroom and full bath--no kitchen so I do see him and I have the rest. The laundry room and mud room are also there but he doesn't claim them......too messy to keep clean!!!!

Of course I have to clean the rest (okay I pay someone to clean the rest but it's still my responsibility).

I hope I am not being critical but:

Is it right for family members to have their own floor?
What ever happened to family togetherness.

Do you at least break bread together?

I agree. That just seems like such a foreign concept to me.

We may not always like to spend every moment together but I can't imagine sectioning each other off like that with entirely different living areas.

It's funny to see this subject today because a friend of mine was just telling me that she wished her DH had his own space to go to at night, so she'd have some space to herself. LOL

In my family, we don't each have "floors" of the house, but we each have our own space, if/when we need it.

We ALL have the familyroom, which is a finished basement, including wall to wall carpeting, recessed lighting on dimmer switches, fireplace (electric), surround sound, entertainment center, etc. We did all the work ourselves and it's gorgeous, you'd never know you were in a basement because it's so big and bright and airy :)

In the basement there is also a finished laundry room, huge work shop, and DH's office.

DSs each have their own bedroom, so they have privacy there when they want it.

I go to our master bedroom if/when I want solitude, DH has his office when he needs quiet.

We all spend most of our time together in the familyroom or livingroom or kitchen, though! :)

As for cleaning, I do it all, except DSs clean their own bedrooms and DH takes care of his office and work shop. DSs do have their chores too.

Not here. We would have to have a six story house for that to happen, lol. Pretty much around here you'd be hard pressed to go to the bathroom without someone trying to get in. I do try to enjoy it though because soon the kids will br grown and off to college or whatever and my house will be way to empty and quiet.

Deena- same thing happens in our house with the bathroom- 5 people + one bathroom ( if you don't count our toilet in a box:rolleyes: )= togetherness:rolleyes:

Yeah, we have our own floors...bedroom floors that is.

DH does have the basement downstairs that has dead ducks, fish and Chicago Bear stuff everywhere.

Hunter has her own bedroom and a small playroom. I have the beauty shop.

I say DS & I each have our own floor. But when Im on the computer, DS uses the living room television. He goes upstairs to play PS2 or listen to his music.

We actually have 2 bathrooms but whichever one I'm in is where the crowd heads. The minute the door closes I hear "mommie are you?" from 2 yr old. And the 2 oldest usually have some type of delimma then too, lol.
