We have ADR's to CRT - will a lot of the little girls be wearing princess dresses? Will little ones in ordinary clothes look out of place?

Nope, my kids just wear regular clothes. We have enough junk to cart around all day without having to worry about playing dress-up. And DD7 thinks it's kind of silly. She will go to Target in a tiara, but she doesn't like the dresses, she says they are scratchy & the shoes hurt. I have posted about this before, but I'll say it again... please make sure the KIDS want to dress up. I saw a lot of miserable-looking sweaty kids all dolled up so Mommy could get the perfect photo. I also saw some very cute little girls who looked happy as can be to be twinsies with their favorite princesses. So... if the KIDS want to dress up, by all means they will not be out of place either way. I think last year there were about 30% of kids in costumes.

to deal with the uncomfortable scratchy issues (my dd wont even keep costumes on long at home) I bought a blue dress (no crinolin but very fancy looking botique dress with a very soft lace overlay) very cheap at a consignment shop to be cinderella last year. This year I bought a clearanced velvet/satin pink dress to be Aurora...again no crinolin or lace anywhere that touches the body ($5 at walmart). We got some little shoes in the shoe department at walmart that were real cute but still comfortable walking...pink and blue lacey pairs that she wears to school...to make these outfits into "princess costumes" we added a tiara and a wand that went with the character. She loves these outfits much more than her scratchy dresses. And she was comfortable wearing them around some afterward but she did change out of aurora because she was running around playing and it was in her way. Lots of the girls were dressed up but not all. and she didnt mind when we went to other meals not dressed up.

princess: Ditto on the sweaty/scratchiness of dresses. Both my dd's wanted to wear their dresses & crowns last year to CRT in Aug and by the time we got to MK they were not too impressed with their dresses. They kept them on for the breakfast and yes the pics did look lovely but fortunately I brought a change of clothes for the park so it wasn't a big deal, but I saw a number of uncomfortable little princess roaming the parks. When I asked my dd's if they wanted to dress up this year they said "NO!!" :p

My DGD would not take her Cinderella dress off. We packed shorts and a tee shirt, but she was having no part of that outfit. My DD did put her comphy sneakers on instead of dressy shoes. She really did look cute in her dress and princess hair, with her little sneakers peaking out and some wild lime green sunglasses.

I will add that we left after the parade in the afternoon for a rest before taking her to dinner so she was not dressed from sun up to sundown.

We did the Princess breakfast in Norway and I did not bring my girls' dresses to Disney with us. At the meal, it seemed as though they were the only small girls WITHOUT a dress on!!! My then 4 yr old DD was so upset that we didn't bring one with us for her to wear :( I am bringing them this year mainly because of MNSSHP and if they want to wear one to the 1900 Park Fare dinner, I can stash the dresses in the locker at the MK when we go back in after dinner :)

My daughter does. She lives in dress up clothes at home so the scratchiness doesn't bother her I guess. I also brought clothes to change her into afterwards but she just wanted to keep the dress on.

It does make for a cute picture and the characters fussed over her. :goodvibes

We are definitely NOT bringing/wearing costumes to the breakfasts. My DDs will be 5 & 2.5. Last year we didnt either. I think one time, my 4 yo mentioned that one girl was wearing the dress, but that was it. She has issues w/clothing being uncomfortable anyway, that there is no way she'd do well in a costume in that heat. I don't think the costumes are needed. They're excited just to see them, and meet them, and take a picture.

Of course, I have one of those little 5 year-old girls that wears her dresses ALL THE TIME!! She's in one now running around the house. She even has 2 really old, worn out ones that I let her play outside in.

Dresses are a priority with her although I DON'T let her wear those princess shoes in parks...just sneakers. And she's like a character magnet during the parades...the characters come and coo over her galore.

My DD3 is determined to wear her princess dress to the castle and her Minnie dress - well somewhere (she doesn't understand we are eating at Chef Mickey's and doesn't know what that is). She definitely understands what eating in the castle with Cinderella means  . Since we are eating in the castle for lunch, we are bringing the dress and putting it in a bag or locker until lunchtime. She can wear it if she wants for the castle time, but then it is going back to where it was. I cannot imagine she will be comfy in the heat of August in a long sleeve dress. She also has picked out several tiaras and found "glass slippers" that actually fit her feet at Walmart.

My DD - 3 1/2 will wear her Cindrella Dress to CRT breakfast and they we'll change her asap into regular clothers after the breakfast.

She insists on wearing her Snow White costume to the Akershus breakfast and will be changed asap there also.

We did the Princess breakfast and less than half of the girls had costumes on. My niece loved Jasmine so an itchy dress wasn't an issue. She wore a really cute Arabian outfit that kind of resembled pajama pants. We brought extra clothes but she refused to changed. The costume definitely got her some extra attention.

We have two DDs. One wore her Cinderella dress and glass slippers and the other wore her jeans and t-shirt. As a Mom, I think all the pictures are cute, so I think as another poster said, it should be the child's decision. DD7 (with costume) was absolutely beaming in her photos, but it may have had more to do with the fact she was actually meeting the princesses than because she was in costume. But she felt beautiful and regal and loved every minute of it. We changed her into street clothes in the bathroom afterwards, and her happiness was worth the extra trouble caused by carrying the change of clothes with us.

If your daughter is "prissy" like my youngest, dress her up if it doesn't break the budget. If you don't want to haul the extra outfit around with you, you can always rent a locker. Have a great time.

DD (5 at the time) did wear Cinderella dress for CRT breakfast last year. IMHO there were more girls dressed up than not! I changed her into shorts and tank right after the breakfast. She also wore her Minnie dress for dinner at Chef Mickey's! Keep in mind though too, that we were there in Oct. during MNSSHP so alot of people had "costumes" with them anyway! It was fun getting her dressed up!

I don't have a daughter but some trips we take our niece with us to WDW. We always make a big deal out of "shopping" for her special dress. She loves the whole dress up thing. This January she will do the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique before a CRT lunch. I wouldn't make her dress up if she didn't want to but she would have been really upset if she didn't get to have a special outfit when we went the first time.

As for what the other girls will be wearing; we've been to several princess meals and it always seems as though about 60 to 70 percent of the little ones are dressed up. Most of them have the walmart/target versions of the dresses, not the disney park versions which can be very expensive. We ususally get the disney park version because I'm the aunt and its my job to spoil the heck at of her - LOL.

When she was little, yes indeed. :teeth:

At five, it was a must do.

But at 7 and 9, she decided she'd rather not have to change again after breakfast and was in tees and jeans. There are always some dressed up, but lots more who aren't.

If your little one wants to wear a dress she won't be the only one there are usually several dressed up princesses there. I put my dd's dress over her clothes so we could take all the stuff off and put it in the bookbag after. This was our best memory though.

My dd wore her cinderella costume to the CRT breakfast when she was five. It was one of the most magical memories of our trip. The breakfast was great, but the magic happened as we were walking into the MK. Our ressies were just before the park opened and as we walked in there were some CMs having a meeting, by the water near the castle. The CM in charge came over, bowed to Lauren, and said that he was training some new CMs and that he would be honored if they could have the opportunity to meet a real live princess princess: . We walked over and they were so wonderful.. they bowed to her, called her your highness, and asked her for her autograph. Lauren is normally pretty shy, but she was on cloud nine and even though she didn't say anything she gave her autograph, and the huge grin on her face said plenty. :cutie:

:smickey: Those little extra steps is what puts Disney far ahead of the ordinary theme park in my book. pixiedust:

My DD6(at the time)wore a princess dress to 1900 Park Fare and to CRT.My DD2 screamed when I tried to get her to wear one.She says she is too old this year. :guilty:

My dd who's 5 wants to dress as Cinderella when we go to 1900 Park Fare. It's the Cinderella character dinner. She's been telling everybody that she wants to dress like Cinderella when she meets her. One problem, it's going to be on Christmas Day. I just figured that she would wear her Christmas dress. Such a dilemma .....LOL
I guess I could just change her afterward.

I plan to let my DD3 wear a dress with a picture of the princesses on it. princess: I found a soft little tank top dress with 3 princesses. That way she thinks she is fancy, but we won't have to change to do the rest of the park. We are also getting her hair done at BBB. The dress is bright pink, so it matches her Crocs! :thumbsup2
