Do you/will you change ADR's based on neg reviews?

It depends. There are people on here whom I share a similar taste with and whose review I trust. I do listen to each review and take them into account when planning our ADRs but I would never cancel an ADR just because someone on a message board had a bad exp.

Now if 9 out of 10 people who reviewed the place hated it, I would think twice =) But 1 or 2 bad experiences, nah - not enough for me to not try it myself.

I also have taken the advice of people and tried new things that I didn't even like or was completely underwhelmed with so it goes both ways =)

Edited to add - we ALWAYS try new places each trip. We are only repeating 2 spots this year and that's only because my ILs are coming and we wanted them to see these spots. I don't understand people who eat the same places each trip personally... so that might factor into it, too. We are always up for trying a new spot.

To me each review must be taken with a grain of salt. We all have different tastes and as the saying goes, "to each their own".

I wouldn't change my ADR's just by someones negative review of it (as each time is under different circumstances anyways) but I will be more aware of the reviews once I actually experienced the resturant first hand.

For example, had I of listened to all the negative reviews on here about Tony's Town Square in MK I would of never gone... However, it turned out to be one of, if not, the best dinning experiences of our 10 day trip on the DDP.

As the Pirates code of conduct... the reviews our moreso guidlines than hardened rules :)

You gotta remember as well - people who have a bad experience are more likely to tell people about it than those who have had a good experience. There's some statistic to match that somewhere ;)

I've only two ADRs because I don't have enough pennies for any more ;) I've Crystal Palace lunch, for which 90% of the reviews I've seen have been positive, plus I've been there once before (like 8 years ago, though) and found it excellent.

The other is the Mama Melrose Fantasmic! Dinner Package. The reviews for this have been more 50-50 but I'm not going to change it for two reasons:

1. I believe in the first statement I made in this post: people are more likely to post when something's gone WRONG, so whilst the reviews here may be more like 50-50 split between +ve and -ve, this could well in reality represent a 70-30 split or similar.

2. I want to do the Fantasmic! dinner package (mainly for personal reasons - I'm not good with waiting in line for more than about an hour). I cannot afford Brown Derby, nor am I a fan of fancy restaraunts ;) I don't, however, wanna go to Hollywood & Vine because I do not want to do two buffets, and because the reviews I've read of H&V have been worse than MM!

Good post! I often worry when someone chimes in with "Now I'm nervous about our upcoming ADR, because of this bad review...." Apparently those folks are not on this thread today.

As some others mentioned, there are certain DIS members whose opinions I trust more than others. I factor in regional preferences and dining habits sometimes.

There are also certainly variables a negative poster will include that may or not apply on my next trip - time of day, busy seasons, special events, etc. - which impacted their impressions.

There are reviews by folks who you KNOW have a problem getting a good meal ANYWHERE - from fast food to 5-star!!!
There are "givens" - many WDW restaurants are noisy. Buffets sometimes get messy. Sometimes you pay for "theming", not food - Sci-Fi a good example. Extreme crowds will almost always tip the scales towards a slightly more negative review.

What reviews accomplish for me - besides psyching me up for the next trip - is balance and acknowledge my expectations for a specific restaurant. There's slways something new to try on the next visit, some places deserve another try, and some I just plain did not like. I hope also that other posters take MY reviews with a grain of salt.

No I wouldn't change my ADR's, I myself would judge but would be aware when I go to the restaurant. For example every one here said Sci-fi is good but only order the hamburger and fries and shakes. So we did except for me and I ordered the steak and cheese with onion rings. It was good minus the sauce that goes with it, so everyone has different taste buds. I now would go again but stick with hamburgers and fries. But I now know that because I tried it myself. :wizard:

It depens on the review. If it's well written and says the good bad and ugly to the extent it allows me to judge whether I'll like it or dislike it, then yes, I might think about changing things.

If it's just a This place sux or this place rocks well I won't

I got nothing but raves about a place.
Then after I posted my review after a bad experience, I read all this Yeah, we didn't think much of it either. I was thinking where were all of you before I decided to do this place? :lmao:

If a consistent string of bad reviews show up...I am apt to change an ADR. In some cases, I wish I had paid more attention to a string of bad reviews: Coral Reef, Tony's, H&V, etc.

Also, if people from New England tell me to stay away from a place because I will be disappointed with the seafood...I LISTEN! I guess it is like people from Philly looking for a good cheese steak or people from NY/NJ trying to find good pizza. These people know what is the best in that food category so I pay attention to them! :sunny:

I`ve been reading these boards for a couple of years now - well I love food! Overall what has been said about the restaurants is usually true. If I saw consistently bad reviews about a restaurant over a few weeks, I may review our ADR, otherwise I leave well alone.

I'm a hardcore lurker on these boards, and I do appreciate the reviews - good and bad - as they do often have an impact on my restaurant choices!

Mind you, one review doesn't normally tip the scales (although, it depends on who did the reviewing as there are some people here whose opinions I value very much!) but a consistent pattern does help tip the scales... However, I tend to be more impressionable when it comes to the positive reviews rather than the negative ones! Maybe because I simply want my dining choices reinforced by other people?? :teeth:

Not unless the review was current and I was going to eat there within the same week and I respected the views of the person sharing the review.

Disney changes staff so often, that one review can be outdated in one month or less.

We have been to many places at Disney and had bad service and go back in 6 months and it be great.

I changed one today, but not due to neg. reviews.

I switched a dinner at Tony's Town Square to a breakfast at 1900. Once I found out Mary Poppins is there. It's a surprise birthday breakfast for my DS23, she's one of two of his favorite characters.

I would never let reviews of others change my mind (except in cases like I mentioned above). Just like I don't reviews keep me from staying at a Value.

^^ And you won't be upset... 1900 is AWESOME for character interaction! Loved it on our last trip ;)

Thanks-I'm excited about this one! Now granted, the mainly good reviews (along with Mary being there) helped in making the decision for this change much easier. :teeth:

I usually make my HTG ADRs on the 1st day/week that you can make them. I'm constantly pulling out my disney plans and adjusting things. I just enjoy doing that. I will/have called occassionally to add ADRs or change them. We've had other families decide that they want to come and hang out with us for meals at least etc...I've been to Disney a lot, so now I sort of know what times we all want to eat. I know that if my daughter and I are going to MK, we'll be ready for sit-down lunch by 11:30! If my son and husband are playing golf, they will not be able to join us for lunch or dinner until a certain time. I keep my print out and mark as I go, whatever changes are made to our ADR plan. The last visit we made it to almost every one of the ADRs that we had planned for. Plus, we added a few more. The only one that we seem to not have either energy for or enthusiasm is for Bomas. Still haven't been there! It's been on every one of our ADR list since we started going to WDW.

I have considered it when I hear repeated bad reviews and I agree with most of the poster's other reviews. You need to know if someone has the same taste as you...but in general I pick where we go based on old favorites and whether or not the menu on allears appeals to us.

It depends. If I've had a questionable feeling about it and read nothing but negative review then yes, I probably would change. But, if I really wanted to go there and read nothing but bad reviews, then no. I would keep my ADR and find out for myself it the bad review were for reason or not.

Once I've decided on the restaurant it would take a lot for me to switch. I would, and have, however, let reviews influence my choices in the first place. I really wanted to try Coral Reef and Tony's last trip but decided so many people hating it can't be all wrong! Once I make a decision though I will stick to it because I usually have a great time. I'm pretty easy to please. I had mixed feelings about Marrakesh but finally decided to give it a whirl. It turned out to be our favorite meal of the trip!

If you've never eaten somewhere - would you change your ADR based on neg reviews here?

I certainly would. If the reviews are, pretty much, consistently bad, then yes, I would change the ADR. I think all restaurants go through bad periods when the staff just aren't clickin' right, making the food and service poor. It doesn't mean I would never eat there though. I would only base my opinion on current (within 2-3 months) reviews.

Only if ever post I read was a negative one or at least 99%. Most places have off days and as another poster stated most people only talk about the bad experiences.

So I will go with what I know and trust that most meals cant be that bad but also I am not getting a 4 star meal at WDW either.

Normally we do not listen to reviews...BUT, we have ADR's for Le Cellier in a couple of weeks. Our kids are not real crazy with the menu selctions, and the continuious bad reviews I have been seeing regarding the wait as well as the food being a hit or miss depending on the day I decide last night that we would try and find something a little more to every ones liking. Maybe next time we will try it, hopefully when they get back on track.
