Do you wear water shoes in the water parks??Wear to buy them now??

I bought a pair at Bass, DW bought hers at Wal-mart, bought DD's at Big Lots. 18 days and counting!!!

Well, my dad caught athlete's foot from going barefoot at a waterpark when I was a kid (mom and I wore shoes) so the very idea of going barefoot creeps me out. DH and I wore watershoes and had no trouble. The only things we had to take them off for at Typhoon Lagoon were the storm slides (just held them) and Humonga Kowabunga (he held his, I didn't go). I did see a few kids stopping to cool their hot barefeet off and getting yelled at to hurry up by their parents. It was a little sad.

With that said, mine came from Target. His are old, so I don't remember where they're from. The gift shop there definitely has them.

We don't wear water shoes because we found that they hurt our feet from rubbing. What we wear now are water sandals. I used to get my son the black Nike ones. They were really stretchy and worked great in and out of the water. They only come in kids sizes, so now I get him the same thing I get - OP (Ocean Pacific) sandals. I get them at Kohl's.

We wouldn't go to a water park without something on our feet for several reasons. You never know what you might step on in a water park (sharp object, goss object, alive object). Also, the surfaces can get pretty hot. Wouldn't go into a public restroom barefooted, no matter where it is. Also, the bottom of the wave pools are rough to help with slipping. Very easy to scrape your foot when you are getting tumbled around. My soon scraped his foot one year when he took off his sandals. It made it harder for him to walk around the parks after that.

We don't like the water shoes. But, sandals work very well for us.

I personally really like the water shoes. I find the pavement is hot and rough on my feet. So is the bottom of any of the wave pools and slides. I have always worn my water shoes and never had a problem.

I have a pair of Land's End water shoes. They have lasted me about 5 years now (unlike the ones from Kmart). They have like bungee cords on them instead of either velcro or just slip ons.

I recommend them for anyone going to a water park. Also dont forget, the tops of your feet get sunburned too, these also helps prevent that. (I've had it happen before, its pretty painful)

Well, I finally found a pair!! Found them at the Modells in the Cherry Hill Mall. Last pair in my size! Had to pay $10 when my BF only had to pay $4 Oh well, at least I have them now!

Anyone been to Typhoon Lagoon recently? Do they still make you take the shoes off on certain slides?

Thanks!

Yep, it's in my post about 2 posts up. Storm slides and Humonga Kowabunga. That was it.

We live about an hour away from Dollywood and Dolly's Splash Country water park in Pigeon Forge, TN. Always have season passes and usually wear water shoes at Splash Country. The pavement is hot and pretty rough in spots and DD tears her toes open. They've never been a problem here, but when we went to Wet N Wild last May, they made us take off the water shoes for certain slides. The lifeguards said we couldn't wear them on the tube-type slides where your feet hang over the edge. The big tubes that hold 4 people were ok because we were sitting criss-cross with our feet in the bottom of the raft. That's the first I've ever heard such a thing!!!

Anyone ever had that problem at a Disney water park? We plan on going to BB in March and TL in October 2006. Thanks!

Yes, there are some rides on which they tell you to remove your watershoes at both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Only on the body slides, though, so if, like me, you don't do body slides, you will be OK. DD, who does the body slides, just holds them in her hands on the way down and once out of the water puts them back on. The reason you have to remove them is because the bottoms are rubber and stick to the slides, which can cause cause slowdowns, stopping and potential injury.
