I was watching Oprah (I think) the other day, and some fashion "gurus" talked about the "10 Must Have Fashion Items", red lipstick was one of them.

I have tried picking out a shade of red lipstick what would flatter me, but was never happy with what I chose. So, until now I have stayed away from reds. There was a makeup artist, and she explained the best way to choose the right shade of red. I'm going to try, again, to find a nice red lipstick.

So, do you wear red lipstick, or do you stay away from red?

Nope I stay away from red!

Yep, I love red!!! I don't wear it that often, but I think an orange/brown shade of red can actually work quite well in a lot of situations (on me). I do enjoy a bright candy red now and then for fun... all about finding the right shade for many ::yes::

Yes!

I have read that if you are fair skinned/pinkish undertones you need a blue/red (think pinkish reds).

If you are medium skin/yellowish undertones you need an orange red (think true red)

If you are dark skinned you need a brownish red.

Works for me!

I love red lipstick ! I do avoid the blue reds since i am a red head and they look horrible.

I have to admit I have worn it. I'm scared of it though! I usually stick to more neutral shades.. I don't wear a ton of makeup anyway. LOL, when I did wear it, my girls were like, "Whoa Mom! What's on your face?"

LOL Holly! I'm a little afraid of it too. Red lipstick tends to overpower my face. :earseek:

I want to wear red so bad. I have been trying for years but nothing looks right on me.

If you can't seem to find a red on your own that looks good, then I suggest going into the dept. stores near you and asking at the makeup counters for some assistance. Many times they have the expertise to see what undertones your skin has and recommend a good red for your coloring.

Another suggestion. Use lipgloss only, or first. Most of the time the red doesn't look so stark when it's diluted by the gloss.

I wear a light red sometimes. Only when I'm wearing red, or black and white. At work my make up has to be a little more intense than normal, so I can get by with it.

Not all the time ... but when I do I use MAC Dubonet. I apply it using a brush so I have better control of how it goes on. I like MAC because they let you return products if you don't like how they look on you once you leave the store. I think quite a few other cosmetic companies have the same policy.

Shannon, with your coloring, a warm shade of red would be best. Do you like orange? Orangy reds, or a brick red might work. Just put some on, blot it and then put some gloss on. But it is hard to get used to.
